I was just wondering if there should be a sort of award for a really succsessful thread.
I'm not sure how it would work , but say with the awards system, Therecan be an award for you creating a thread with over:
100
500
1000
2500
5000
posts
The latter is extremley rare and it's unusual for someone to create a thread that even reaches the 100 post mark. I just thought this would encourage people to create more threads and more eaningful threads.
You could even go as far to say if you've had a thread in the past that has reached the goal mark you could send the past link to whoever would be incharage of this and still getthe award similar to the way you atain member of the month.
Obviously i know this would need alot of tweaking and implimation, but i truley believe it would increase the amount of intresting threads around the forum.
It was just a quick passing idea.
So any thoughts?
Just because a thread has 100 or even 5000 posts doesnt make it good or contributory.

I do like the idea and think it's something possible, especially for the larger end of replies although arguably this is something the reputation system could cover.
On top of that what sort of thread would you class as good though? Because there are threads like "What are you listening to" which have thousands of replies but I wouldn't say it's a great thread :P
Inseriousity.

Yes, sorry, I don't think 'lots of posts' qualifies for a quality thread but the idea in general is a good concept and something that could be easily moderated by the moderation team :D

Ok mabey scrap the 100 / 500 posts. But it takes a decent contribution to make a thread that tops 1000 replies. As the subject is very relevant or intrestin to debate or a great way to pass the time (What are you listening to).

The threads with much quantity are rarely decent threads, or even successful, they're usually just non-constructive "Post your" or just enormous arguments.
A successful thread would be someone asking for help, someone helping them and then them thanking them, just three posts in the thread but a lot more useful.

I mean threads that are used, not spamming but are used and are keeping posts coming in and people are eithr debating / updating / playing and so on. I might get a list of threads i mean such as.
It's hard to get across what i'm trying to say.

I like the idea on "paper" but:
- Quality, not quantity
- It is ever so rare, like you said to get 1000 meaningful posts which debate etc.

Mabey several factors should be in place?
For instance:
Post count
View count
Sitckied or not?
If the moderator assigning the award believes it is constructive or not
and so on..

Could do a member of the month style thing, hand pick the top 3 threads that month in each section? Maybe.

I like it.
i'm guessing the criteria would still be:
Constructive or not.
Posts
Views
and so on.

Surely that's what Member of the Month is anyway really, at least I certainly consider creators of good threads when making nominations.

I always thought MOTM normally is those wo contribute the most and the best constructivley over a number of threads. Rather than posting one decent thread then not posting in that section again.
If you see what i mean.
And it's probably best not to do 3 from each section but mabey the 3 best of the month?

Well, it depends, in the past users who have created one thread which went down an absolute storm and remained in peoples minds therefore they were awarded member of the month for contributions to that section - one thread can contribute a lot depending upon the discussion.
An example of this is when lorren won Member of the Month in feedback for posting one of the most substantial and well-recieved feedback threads Habbox has seen in a long while.
If there are good threads, people should be +repping the OP, we have member of the month award for those that contribute threads etc to the forum.

I'm guessing that is what i got my MOTM for entertainment when i posted my lost thread which nealy reached 4k posts.
But on the topic of repping the creator, that happens very rarley. On my thread i may of got 1 or 2 + reps. And i don't believe i ever + rep a thread starter. Only people who have been helpful or made me laugh in a post.
I believe this is the feeling of many and thats why i think there needs to be a new system for those who make constructive threads that are well recieved around the forum.

Alternatively we could simply encourage the +repping of the OP of good threads, rather than starting a new prize system and giving more prizes out - prizes will start to lose their value eventually.

But how could we encourage +repping, no matterhow much people say to rep more i still don't feel the urge to give ti unless they have done somthing that has directly helped or amused me which is rarley.
Hence why i suggestedthe like / dislike buttons.
It's a hrad loop were stuck in.

People need to stop being so stingy with rep, we can't make up for what people won't give.

I really do not agree with this, sorry! Many threads with that many posts may just be arguments, or spam, or unconstructive among with many other situations.
Nice thought, but I really don't think it would be a good idea.

I disagree with the original post because:
- The amount of replies which a thread receives can not determine the rate of success which has evolved as a result of the thread. The high level of replies could be an argument so it wouldn't work if it was an automatic system.
- The reputation system is there for this. If a thread is successful then depending on the success rate, at least one person is likely to rep the op.
Pointless posting. That is all.

Then the OP to a thread that has been stickied, e.g. the Post Your Desktop thread, would get rewards for nothing. Good idea, but needs work.
I reckon a simple awardmight be nice, nothing fancy like VIP or anythin. cant hurt can it?
