View Full Version : Why isn't the top contributor in the Debates section announced?

The current debates system works on a weekly basis, with a new debate being posted every Sunday and running for a set period of 2 weeks. This means that there should be 2 debates running on any given week. At the end of this fortnightly period, the Debates Leader will close the thread and one user, who is the ‘Top Contributor’, will be awarded 1 month’s worth of VIP subscription on the forum. Reputation points may also be available to some members. To become a ‘Top Contributor’ you must post constructive and valid posts throughout the debate in question, following the Debates Forum Rules throughout the debate’s duration.
This really is like any other competition on the forum and it would be nice to know who won
and was awarded the VIP for each debate.

Grig normally announces who has won, I think he is away on holiday at the moment though? :D

Grig usually does announce this but as Grig is away I have been doing debates and I often forget to announce new debates & the top contributor winners.
The top contributors whilst I have been acting Debates Leader have been; buttons & muct (Should some forms of incest be legal (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=655601)) and Alexxxxx (Is it right for countries to ban the Islamic Burqa (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=656749))
Sorry these haven't been announced although Debates isn't high on my list of priorities as it's not my job usually.

Okay. Well that's why I probably couldn't find it then.:)

But you are the acting debates leader and therefore should try to do it rather than saying "not on my list of priorities as its not my job usually".

Fair enough though if he forgot since it usually isnt on his list of priorities.

Agree but maybe this should also be amended to say Top Contributors because two members won it this month in the same debate and it says one user who is top contributor.

Would make it a lot clearer to everyone.

Usually its one user so its fine. Only rare times is it more than one.

Well it would make it clearer for the times where it is an exception to the rule?

I don't really see the point :S. Oli said its very rare and only really happens when a different debate hasn't produced a good discussion. Most people will not go "omg why were there two winners and not just one" :S. Its just nitpicking.

Oh that's unusual for you - you are usually the first to say that the rules should be clear.

Its not a real. Its just information, and its very rare for there to be more than one winner. Most of the time, there is just one winner and there are usually only two winners if a other debate failed. The debates dept gets 4 VIPs per month so there can only be 4 winners.

Anything official like that are rules/guidelines to me - those are what Habbox goes by and if they don't and if there can be 4 winners all the more reason for amendment. You are entitled to your opinion of course but you can't actually give me an answer on behalf of the management, can you?

I am not too sure what you mean by the last line, but its just information. There are 4 debates and 4 VIPs. Each debate gets 1 winner, on the rare occasion (like twice every 6 months) there happens to be two. No big deal. Just nitpicking really.
There are many things which are slightly inaccurate in FAQ, why not change every single thing :S. People are expected to use common sense.

I mean that any amendment would have to be sanctioned by the management and I think your opinion on it is quite well known by now. It cannot be classed as slightly inaccurate when it is stated as one member when in fact it could be four. That would be like saying you win 1 months VIP when in fact it could be four?

4 people winning the VIP for a debate is pretty much never going to happen and we both know it. Its common sense and the fact is, they have 4 vips to give away and 4 debates. Maximum will probably ever only be two.
Management know your opinion too so why do you keep replying then :s if you are asking me to stop?

Woah, a lot of discussion has gone into this - paying a lot of attention to detail but still I have changed it:
At the end of this fortnightly period, the Debates Leader will close the thread the top contributor(s) will be awarded 1 month’s worth of VIP subscription on the forum

Oli has changed it to 'Top contributor(s) so more than one member can win, if they feel it is right to do so.:S
It is much clearer than before and reflects what actually happens.
I think you're both nitpickin' and there isnt any need to change one letter in it, dont even know why this thread is still bein discussed.

only saying as you cant have more than one winner most of the time due to vip limit
but yeah ok. like nemo said, no point discussing it.
Actually I think Catzsy is right in a sense. To my knowledge I changed it at some point so only one person would win the prize per debate. I'm pretty sure that was the plan, I'm not sure what has happened but I'll look into it.

Actually, that was changed (upon agreement with you, me & matt) when Grig gave a member VIP for one post in a debate which wasn't successful.
That's when we ruled that if a debate is not substantial that we won't award VIP for it and Grig is welcome to use his other quota elsewhere, as long as it wasn't used stupidly.
