Seems a few people have got this Avir Pro thing recently, is there any chance it could be from here? I know pyroka is on the job already, but it's annoying to sort out if I'mma get it again.

There have been a few possibility's however it always seems to lead back to habboxforum, I don't understand how people are getting the virus one by one though, surely it would be a mass virus if something on habbox was exploited.

Callum.

Not sure, might be to do with what security you have. Because on the malwarebytes forum topic, they said it would have been blocked before it was downloaded if you had their buyable version, so if you have a similar to that it may have been blocked.

I use Microsoft security essentials & I'm fine, what are you using?

Umm just AVG I think, usually fine but not sure. Have been reading and some say it's google redirects or something. I do normally type whatever I want in the web address bar for it to search through google, so who knows :/

Im unsure as to how folks are obtaining the virus unless they're silly enough to open random executables pulled from the net around these parts.

I don't use an AV, but it's not because my main OS is OS X. I simply do not download crap. A strategy I encourage everyone to adapt :P

The only thing I can think of is that it could be in some of these signature scripts that some people use on HxF although that wouldn't make sense as the people who have been infected don't use them.

It could be facebook.

I got this virus yesterday and the only things I was on at the time was Facebook and HxF. I've got it fixed now at PC World and they have put on anti malware and norton 360, it's a horrible virus!

You're talking like we're stupid, and actually downloaded the file. It just pops up with no download already scanning, you don't accept anything.

I doubt the 4 or so people downloaded the same crap to get the same virus in less than 24 hours.

I have to say I don't download crap and this is the first virus I've had simply because like the other person, I don't download crap. It does seem strange how HxF users appear to be getting, I use another forum (much larger) and if someone gets a virus they'll normally create a thread asking for help because with it being a football forum most users aren't very urr... 'clued up' and I've not seen anything about it so I wouldn't say it's Facebook (although it is a possibility I guess).

Oh and HotelUser... your computer is probably riddled with rubbish if it's unprotected.

Nixt

It is something that we are investigating thoroughly at this moment in time and hope to resolve as soon as possible. I think the risk of it being on Habbox Forum or Habbox itself is highly unlikely but nevertheless we are fully aware of the possibility and are therefore endeavouring to clarify whether this is, or is not the case.

In the mean time we encourage you to be cautious with what sites you visit and what you download, and ensure your virus protection is fully up to date and in working order.

Syphon

Yeah but the flaws in windows was down to a shortcut flaw which allowed hackers to abuse this and redirect shortcuts to virus' or something like that.

I recently had a rogue antivirus attack, first a trojan downloader got in, then 10 of them started to pop up very quickly.

It auto-installed, no clicking involved, i just had websites open, none had any warnings, youtube etc. when all of a sudden, a rogue antivirus pops up saying "you are infected" seconds later AVG conferms the rogue antivirus and tries deleting all of them.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

That anti-malware is the best in my opinion, its specially designed for rogue antivirus' etc and can clean up your registry keys if they are infected - found 17 infections on my computer, all deleted now.

Robbie

I'd say the first was when the transfer period started... I browsed the sports section to lol.
Then the second would have been when we signed David Silva, wanted another lol and to open my ban appeal.
Then I had it in the space of two days since I've been back on here.

So I'd say over the space of a month? First two were spread out over two-three weeks then I had two within 24/48 hours.

It's some bull poop virus that pretty much disables everything (task manager, regedit, executable files, etc) then tries to con people saying that their computer is infected and to fix it you need to buy this this and this, etc. Well, that's if my other computer has the same virus everyone else does. It seems easily fixable using the old malware and safe mode but still a pain nevertheless.

Well I know it isn't from Habbox and Oli said earlier in the thread that it could be from Facebook, which I know people use on our other computer so I just assumed that's where it came from. Obviously I don't know for sure.

Also, safe mode + malware did the job for me. The computer is working fine again now.

I don't think the virus could go as far as not letting the computer boot at all, the computer would still boot into the BIOS startup screen even if Windows wasn't there, if I remember correctly?

And if it was the virus you would hear some beeps at the start of the boot to tell you it's faulty, if I remember correctly (again)?

Maybe it's a fault with her computer.

No I quite agree with you bethie and I'm not saying you're accusing HxF I was the first this morning to think it could be a problem with HxF and it could still be a problem somewhere on HxF we aren't ruling it out I just think it'd have affected more users.

looks better than that FF crap lol

I prefer

IE > Opera > Safari > IE 7 > IE 6 > IE 5 > IE 4 > IE 3 > IE 2 > IE 1 > Firefox

There's a hell of a lot that's wrong with IE.

Exactly. He seems to be under the impression that you can only get crap if you download crap.

Running OS X does help :P

Even though I already have adequate protection, I downloaded malwarebytes anyway.

Restart computer pressing F8 to boot into safe mode with the connection thing.
Untick the LAN/Proxy bit in IE.
Open up Malwarebytes and do full scan.
Sit and wait thinking how fit the computer looks in safe mode compared to W7.

think i got it from google. read some thing about some hijacking which sounds more plausable than it being hxf, but it was weird how quite a few got it.

&neversoft, theres loads of places that makes it happen, it wouldn't be just here even if someone may have got it from here.

Obviously, all I am saying is that it most definitely isn't from Habbox.

Just an update on this virus thing:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-27080_3-20012806-245.html

Microsoft will issue 14 security bulletins on Tuesday to plug 34 holes, including eight that are critical, in Windows, Office, Internet Explorer, SQL and Silverlight, the company said on Thursday.

"This will be the most bulletins we have ever released in a month; we have released 13 bulletins on a couple of occasions," Angela Gunn, security response communications manager at Microsoft, wrote in a blog post. "However, in total CVE [common vulnerabilities and exposures] count, this release ties with June 2010, so there's no new record there."

Affected software includes: Windows 7; Windows XP; Vista; Windows Server 2003 and 2008; Windows Server 2008 release 2; IE 6, 7 and 8; Office XP Service Pack 3; Office 2003 Service Pack 3; 2007 Microsoft Office System Service Pack 2; Office 2004 and 2008 for Mac; Office Word Viewer; Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel and PowerPoint; 2007 File Formats Service Pack 2; Microsoft Works 9; and Silverlight 2 and 3.

The IE, Office, and Silverlight updates fix an increasingly used type of flaw "where attackers and malware go through the installed applications rather than through the core operating system," said Qualys CTO Wolfgang Kandek.

"Windows XP SP2 users do not have any patches supplied to them, even though the five critical vulnerabilities for XP SP3 most likely apply to their discontinued version of the OS as well," he said. "Windows XP SP2 users should upgrade to SP3 as quickly as possible."

Earlier this week, Microsoft released an emergency patch for a critical Windows vulnerability that was being exploited by a fast-spreading virus and other malware. The so-called "shortcut" vulnerability could be used by attackers to take control of a computer.

Sounds familiar eh? Robbie already mentioned this, but it seems this was deffo the case, was nothing to do with HabboxForum, but yknow where else to circulate a virus other than a forum where people regularly visit. Sooo I guess to sort it out, just use Windows Updates and make sure u install all updates.
