Personally I don't think it looks terrible although I presume I'll get a better feel for it once I've actually taken it for a spin. The widgets seem to be really text oriented and refrain from using much imagery.
They're really going to need to stockpile up on developers to compete with their Google and Apple counterparts though :P

It is interesting on the UI they went with. I'm wondering what HTC are doing with their "Sense" as they did announce that they would be bringing it to the Windows Phone 7.

It looks just like the G1 in my opinion, pretty nice.

Poor old Microsoft, always playing catch-up.

Microsoft playing catch-up? They created some awesome technologies with Windows and Server range.

And when it comes to the consoles, everyone's been playing catchup on Microsoft for a few years now. They've just always struggled in the mobiles department, and in my opinion will continue to do so. This is Microsoft's last real chance at capturing the market and they're going to fail to do so big time.

I kinda feel sorry for them, seeing as Windows Mobile has been around alot longer than iOS and Android, or at least available to consumers. It's like Microsoft took a wrong turning on a cross-road while iOS and Android took the fast-lane and over took Microsoft on the way.
It looks good, but as you said, they've got alot of work to do :)

Don't feel sorry for them. They had a crappy mobile operating system which became clear to the world when iPhoneOS and Android hit the scene :P

I don't like the main screen with the large blue buttons for each function or application. It makes it seem as if it's geared towards children or older people who don't have good sight.

No, they just had an outdated OS and didn't update it to Phone 7 quick enough.
