A 70-year-old grandfather has told a court how he went to sleep in his caravan and woke up to find it being towed by thieves - with him still inside.
William Roberts of Conwy, Wales, was left stumbling around the vehicle for 10 minutes as crockery smashed around him, before making his escape when the vehicle stopped for a moment at a lay-by.
Mr Roberts, who had drunk more than half a bottle of whisky before going to bed, told Llandudno magistrates that he thought he was dreaming until he fell out of bed.
The court was told that the £15,000 caravan knocked over a gatepost as it was taken from his driveway. After Mr Roberts' escape the caravan was involved in a high-speed police chase until it was stopped 10 miles away.
Benjamin Moorhead, 29, admitted taking the van without consent and driving when banned and his girlfriend Chantelle Kinnish, 24, admitted allowing herself to be carried in it. Both were convicted of theft.
