View Full Version : Do you believe in God?
Any God btw, whether the catholic God, indian Gods or whatever...
Do you?
I don't lol. I believe that there could have been a Jesus, but his powers were greatly exaggerated.

From the world that's around me and due to events that have happened in life it's hard for me to believe that it is all strictly scientific. I feel as if there's more to it than that, and for that reason I do believe in a God (in my specific case, I am Roman Catholic). This is not to say that I agree with every aspect of Roman Catholicism, but that's a whole different discussion. To sum it up though, I do believe in a God and I think that everyone has a spiritual aspect to their lives whether or not that involves a God, which it doesn't have to.

Most of my family are religous too lol, but we used to get forced into church by our school and I was like 'why cant we just have a choice? :l'

Because you were young so they try and make you believe in stuff like that!

I find it funny because our school is Roman Catholic yet about 3/4 of the people here don't believe in any God at all :l

I don't know really what I believe but the question of how we were created and are who we are cannot be answered by evolution I do not think. There has to be something else but this will always be the mystery of life I guess.

I go to a C of E school so we go to church every friday and stuff. But I don't believe in God, I think it's the story of creation that confuses me, with Adam and Eve. And all of those miracles that the Bible says happened, nothing like that has ever been known to happen in present day, right? To me the science theory makes sense.
But I do believe in heaven/afterlife.

no i dont, theres just no way that a 'god' could have created the world etc when theres so much evidence against it (thats just one example)
so 100% no

When I was young my primary school made us go to church so I didn't know that well if he was real or not tbh. But now I can make my own choices and decisions and I've chosen not to believe because there is no solid proof or facts. There's more proof and facts showing that he wasn't real and didn't create the world. :)

I'm agnostic. I've been brought up with my mum believing in God and my dad thinkng it's stupid, they often have debates. How they've managed to stay together for 25 years is beyond me (:

Absolutely not. You know I used to think I was undecided but there are some thing that you see and experience in life that make it clear, the God we are taught about certainly doesn't exist.

I do but I don't.
I believe that God exists and all, however I don't go to church and I never have. I've gone a few odd times with friends and never paid attention. I hated church. It seems a waste of time for me.
When people ask about my religion, I try to avoid the subject at all, but I usually just say Christian if I'm really being asked about it. I usually don't get asked. I don't really identify myself as anything. Religion just isn't important to me. If I have children, I am going to allow them to follow any path they wish, but I am not going to take them to church regularly under my own willpower, unless my husband wants to!

Yep lol, like lots of bad things happen in life and you're just like 'If there was a God wouldn't he stop that? :S'

Thread is not very well worded. You state in the opening post that this question covers all gods, yet the thread title says God with a capital G (which then only covers Judaism, Islam and Christianity) and no-one's actually mentioned any other than that one. Frankly I don't believe any of you are likely to actually know enough about the topic to have an opinion that could carry much weight in a real discussion, but then again neither do most people who call themselves religious. I for one don't know of any religious person who knows let alone follows all of their own teachings, and it's really no surprise that things have gotten so distorted over time, but I don't feel anyone should attempt to advocate or belittle any belief system without actually knowing about it.

I don't lol. I believe that there could have been a Jesus
No God = no "more than human" Jesus. Even if like the Jews you believe Jesus to be a powerful prophet and not the son of God, there needs to be a deific entity around to grant the powers.
I do but I don't.

Frankly anyone who claims to believe in the God featured in the Bible/Torah/Qur'an but doesn't fear, respect or love Him enough to go to worship cannot truly believe. You may have belief in a god, but clearly not God.
Yep lol, like lots of bad things happen in life and you're just like 'If there was a God wouldn't he stop that? :S'
Why should this be the case? Have you never built something just to see how it can be broken?

I'm gonna just guess that you've never come across a metaphor.
I do believe is Jesus but not too sure about God.
Again, no God = no Jesus. I would really love to see an argument put forth for the existence of a divine Jesus without God.

I am not really too sure. It's hard to think that we all just happen to be here. I'm not going to give an answer because I change my mind all the time. I do not think that any Human is capable of making an accurate guess.

I don't follow any earthly religion but I do believe that there is or at some time was a being or set of beings in our world far enough more paranormally abled than us to be described as a god or gods, although whether it/they still exist(s) I can't say. It really is a fascinating study though if you look at the actual beliefs of each religion and not just what modern (or even ancient in many cases) folk have decided to pick up on and mold into society. How many Jews and Christians among the general populace would admit that there has existed more than one god (note lower case g)? I would suggest quite a huge amount less than all of them, despite what the Bible/Torah states :P

I noticed how you varied the use of upper and lower case G's in your previous post. Am I right to assume that it is only an upper case if you are actually referring to a good directly?

I do believe in God, but my reasons are too complex that I can't even explain why I do.
i simply don't. Just from a more scientific approach it just doesnt seem likely, that isnt to say i completely dismiss the idea of a God, because for all i know there could be, but from what i know (which is very little in the grand scheme of things), i just dont think there is one.

Absolutely, God with an upper case G (God) should only ever be used to reference the deity of the 3 main (supposedly) monotheistic religions - Christianity, Islam and Judaism, and of them most people use it to refer specifically to the Christian deity, which although technically the same as the other two differs in stating Jesus as divine rather than merely a prophet - though never doubt that he is shown as an extremely powerful and important prophet in both other religions, just not as the true messiah. To reference a god with a lower case g can technically means any deific being, even down to the point that I often refer to myself as a god, although it's often difficult to work out on the forum since a lot of these kids don't use upper case on anything other than anger :P to be safe, any religious discussion ought really to set some sort of limit on what religions may be discussed, as totally open-ended ones are fascinating if debated properly but merely frustrating if not. Let's be honest, if people have so secondhand and uneducated a view of the one religion which dominates our culture, what use can most of them be in a discussion involving the entire spectrum of deific debate? :D

I dont really believe in all this god stuff, as I believe in the Scientific theory of how the earth was created but I think there could've been someone called Jesus or whatnot but like less powerful, as I'm sure we've all tried to duplicate 1 fish into 1,000 fishes or 1 loaf of bread to 1,000 loaves of bread :L

So yeah I do believe in God, and I know most of you in this thread don't, but there are way too many things to have just "happened" on accident, we are so intelligent, we're all different, none of us are the same. Are you saying that happened on "accident"?

the way you phrase it just feeds your ideals. science and theory dont claim everything to be an "accident," if anything more of a series of events that could have gone billions of different ways. and what are you comparing our intelligence to? cause i see incredibly stupid people constantly. we are all different because we all have different genes, different experiences, different surroundings, it only makes perfect sense, yeah? it's not an "accident," it's the result of us all having a different life context.

There is no proof that a 'God' ever existed. It is a way to keep children in line and provides an answer for the emotionally unstable. The Bible only shows the parts it would want, so is one of the greatest works of fiction. For example Christianity wasn't even invented until Jesus actually died and has been suggested that Jesus led a Jewish life with 7 siblings, a wife and child. All of those the Bible fail to mention because it goes against their beliefs (even though Jesus' teachings totally contradicted the Christian church).
Game over. We die in the ground.
