Has this been a thread? If so, sorry. So yeah, have your parents influenced your decision to go to college/uni?
Did they make you go to college/uni or is it your own decision?
My parents are making me go to college&uni, I would have went to college on my own free will but not uni, I wanna travel & get a tattoo apprenticeship somewhere.
So what about yourselves :)
Its my own decision and my mum has said numerous times that whereever i go and whatever i do she'll be behind it so its all good. I wanna go uni anyway so it doesnt really matter.

my decision
i wish my mum cared more about my education but she doesn't, if she did i'd probably have tried harder at school. i guess she just gave up with me because both my brothers have no ambition.
she's ok with which path i take, aslong as i'm doing SOMETHING & not living off her. she prob doesn't even know what i want to do with my life but it's ok i'm doing it for myself now

I guess so. My dad expected me to go to college after school and the best college around at that. I was really indecisive for a while and was really back and forth with my choices, so maybe it seemed like I didn't care or something to my dad because I wasn't getting anywhere, but I said if I didn't get into college I'll just go to my schools sixth form and we weren't actually on speaking terms for a few days after that. I know the sixth form was pretty crappy but there was no need to get so pissed about it, but all's well that ends well. I did end up going to the best college and graduated with really good grades. But once I finished the three year course I came out realising it might not actually be what I want to do for a living lol. Oh well, life is a mystery. You win some you lose some. Still don't know where I'll end up.

It was all my decision, my mum did have some input because she would of preferred me to go to college than do anything else but she said as long as I was doing something useful and that could help me progress in the future she wasn't that fussed.

The entire situation was my decision. My parents know not to treat me like a child anymore and they know that they can't make decisions for me now that I can be independent if I wish.

It was my decision to go. I think they would have supported me whatever as long as I was in employment or at least trying to get some.
Inseriousity.

Yes, without trying to be mean to them cos they are smart but they left school at 16 and they're generally just going through the motions in life now, trying to keep the family supported. I'd love to be able to do something I enjoyed doing and keeping my family supported rather than just 1 of them like my parents have to so that made me decide to continue with college. After that, everything was down to me: college, courses etc. My dad did want me to do maths but I'm stubborn like him and refused :D

Going to college and then university just seem to be the next step in one's life. You're born, waddle around for a bit, go to school, high school, college, uni and then finally discover a career which suits you. Pretty much everyone I know is going to a college, like myself, in September so it seems to be the "done thing"
The courses I took was completely my decision. My parents supported me around the open evenings but at the end of the day, they understand it's me that's going to be sat in the classroom and typing out essays so it's my decision.

Well i'm still in school, and entering Year 11 when i return, but i know for definate i will be going to college and uni.
All of my sisters (like 4 or whatever it is nowadays) went to college but none went to university. I have not spoke to my mum about when i leave school yet, so my decision to want to go to college or uni is totally my own, i can imagine she would be annoyed if i chose to go straight into a job after leaving secondary though.
