As I'm in London covering the Film4 FrightFest, one of the films on the line-up is the MEGA-controversial A Serbian Film. It's showing in literally a couple of days as the fest starts tonight and it's just been slashed by the BBFC with four minutes of cuts. That's UNHEARD OF in 2010. Nothing like that's happened in like two decades. It's now been blocked off from the line-up board outside the venue moments ago. Very, very interesting stuff happening here.

That is interesting. Keep us posted with the news.

It's been DROPPED. They do not wish to show it in its cut form to preserve the integrity of the film-makers' vision. VERY shocking in 2010.

Woah! I understand the feeling of film maker though. He must be gutted to say the least. Any idea why it was cut?

Very disturbing. Stuff happens involving a newborn baby, so yeah, read if you really want to.

I did check it. Not my particular cup of tea but it's a shame they accepted it for viewing in the first place only to impose cuts.

The festival agreed to show it because they feel it deserves to be screened. It's the BBFC who have cut it to ribbons so the festival guys want to protect the film-makers' vision and they don't believe FrightFest attendees should see the film in its unintended form. It's a shame but totally cool of the FF guys to drop it for that reason.

...Still, I'll be seeing it in the next 24 hours, uncut...

Sounds incredibly graphic but it is pretty much unheard of for a film to be censored to such a degree in the UK nowadays

Why is everyone so surprised a film has been cut? It isn't that shocking. The BBFC refused to classify and banned the Japanese horror film Grotesque (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1352369/) only last year and in 2006 they cut Paranoia Agent (an animated series) by 1 minute 20 seconds as it featured a child attempting to commit suicide. Of course there are many more as well... censorship is still going strong, y'know.

Not surprised by cuts, but they've been lenient in recent times, but four minutes is a huge deal in 2010. Was cahtting to a BBFC guy today. Regardless, we were given a copy of it to watch.
