COMPUTER SCIENCE MASTER RACE.

One is Science, one is engineering, though presumably they're the same thing (software engineering).

I'm debated on CompSci or CompSci w/ Games Dev.
What is better Sci or Engineering?

I would think that building game engines or working with game software would require some engineering initiative, which will likely be sneaked into your educational dinner so to speak.

Why not ask a developer or your mum?

The courses are exactly the same regardless.

I believe in terms of Computer Science a BSC would be better but it really depends on the course. As for the other question, do straight Comp Sci and then if you want to go into the video games industry then specialise in it during your last year of the degree, games development will only limit your scope in the future and could potentially limit your skill set.

Right so I've applied for Computer Science at two different Universities. I've also applied for Games Development at one of these Universities too. Would this hinder my chance of being accepted for Computer Science at that University?
Would I be able to get accepted for both Computer Science & Computing with Games Development at that 1 university and then choose between them?

No, however your application will likely be handled by the same department so if you are rejected for one course then you could potentially be rejected from both if they are judging by the same criteria. Out of interest where are you applying to?

Personally, I'd prefer BSc. It's just a title though. Both are equivalent.

Depends which one Paul thinks would get the girls quicker.

Do Computing Science as it will show you have a wider knowledge base about computing and software programming in general rather than just focusing on Games Development and finding you actually hate programming games :P

What is the difference between Computing Science and Computer Science. Robbie told me Computer Science is more respected.

Plus I don't wanna seem mean but you will get loads of losers on a games programming course.

Why do you stereotypicalize gamers as 'losers'. I know a lot of cool people that I've met through gaming that are not your stereotypical guys.

Well, I'm hopefully doing an MSc. And obviously being a Master of Science will get all the girls quicker ;).

Gamers aren't losers by any means but I've looked at games programming courses and I've been to the open days. It could just be bad luck but the people who attended did seem to be rather misinformed, for example on my open day one person asked the lecturer "By the end will I be able to make a game like Halo". These aren't the kinda people you want to study with ^^.
