Obviously not all cds, but for example is it illegal to buy songs off itunes then burn them to a cd? afterall it technically is 'your' song as you paid for it.

Technically it's illegal to rip a CD to your Hard drive or copy an MP3 to your MP3 Player, so probably!
It's one of those laws that no one can/will/does enforce.

if you're using the songs for your own use then no, if you're selling them on then yes it is illegal

i thought it was illegal if you were to sell it, or use it so that you gave it to a friend etc. Basically as long as you used it for your own entertainment

I torrent **** all the time, I doubt anyone's gonna care that you ripped music onto a CD...
