Is using the word

****** or in other terms 'the N word' completely unacceptable even in a discussion about 'someone calling another person a ******'?


I was watching a clip that looked like a news topic discussion were they were discussing 'dog the bounty hunter' saying the word ****** several times. The strange thing is the host said ****** several times himself, he obviously wasn't directing it at anyone, so is that fine?


Is it okay to use the word ****** on say for example, the radio. If its creating a discussion about the word?


Personally I think the word is after blowing out of proportion, I find it hard to believe that people still get offended by this word in 2010.. Thats just my perspective on it. For example if I had no legs and someone brought up a discussion about people who have no legs, of course I wouldn't be offended. You could argue that the word was misused in the past, but after all the word did actually generate from the word 'Niger'. Its okay for black people to call other black people ******* so why is it any different if a white person calls a black person a ******?

yes because it is quoting someone, and i dont think hypothetical quotes count. actually there was something recent here in the U.S. where this popular radio show host basically mocked a caller by saying the N word over and over again, she was calling for advice about what to do about her white husband's friends (the caller was a black woman) who were using the N word behind her back to her husband, and she basically said "well comics on hbo say it all time so you shouldnt be so sensitive about it" which is an absurd thing to say, really. and she said the N word about 11 times or something lol

at least here in the u.s., it was able to go repeated unfiltered by news anchors because it was a quote of someone, and not actually directed at anyone by the person quoting it. also once when the president dropped an F bomb it was repeated on news stations lol

Yeah its completely insane. Hopefully one day the media will grow up and stop assuming that certain swear words offend people. One day I hope people look back on stuff like this and admit they were blowing things out of proportion.

Racism has gone way too far in my opinion. If you called a teenager a 'chav' isnt that as bad as calling someone the n word (not that i ever would)? It is just an insult based on someones appearance, but if you called someone the n word, it would be treated much more seriously.

When I say it it's not in the context of Y'ALL WATCH ME NOW, I'MMA GO CATCH ME SOME *REMOVED* FOR THE HANGIN' TREE it's just like hey what up *REMOVED* as a general harmless term. Whilst ignorance is no excuse for doing things wrong in many cases, I don't think offense should be caused by the use of a single word if it's not said as a malicious expression.

As other people have said I think this whole thing surrounding racism is starting to go to far, and the P-C Brigade really don't help situations either infact they make things even worse.
Personally I think that with that term it's either racist or it's not. I don't see how it's okay for rappers or other Black people to use it and call eachother it if no one else can. Im sorry but it's either racist or it's not, and this is regardless of your skin colour and the background you are from. Why is it okay for some to say it but others aren't? You can either say it or you can't, end of. You can't have one rule for one and another for others.

well firstly its not the media that decides words are too offensive for tv, its the government that controls that. they make the rules, really. and even so, many people DO find certain swears offensive, so many tv stations wouldnt do it anyway even if they were allowed. think about it, allowing swear words on your television station would only drive away people who find swears to be offensive, but it wouldnt gain viewers by allowing a bunch of swears. i guess if you like hearing swears its a plus but i dont think theres many people whod only watch a show to hear the F bomb over and over. plus, a lot of advertisers wouldnt want to be associated with a tv station/show that has a lot of swears.

and there are no "rules." you ARE allowed to say the N word as much as you want. no ones going to arrest you. the consequences are purely social, so that means its a public consensus, its not like the government says you arent allowed to say the N word.
