Hi. I've been running an online radio station for a while, and heard that most stations actually don't properlly do requests.

I was told this by someone who has owned FM stations in the past - he said that if a request comes in for a paticular song if it was already coming up then they'll play it and read the request - but if it wasn't in the playlist for today's show they wont.

Is this true?

Uh probz unless their radio director allows it, cuz Radio 1 has a A-list, B-list & C-list playlist doesnt it???

i guess theyre the approved tracks yknow?

But apparently most just plan out a show

e.g. heres 10 tracks we are going to play today between here and there - if someone then requests it they just pretend they are playing the request - but they would have played it anyways if you get me.

yeah, when i worked at a radio station we worked from a pre-defined playlist, and if we got requests, we generally just binned them.

I know a couple of friends who used to do like a local radio show, and they did requests, but their show was all weird folk music and stuff, they always had like the same group of people listening so it was never Lady GaGa or anything like that on it.

yeah, i know some people that work in galaxy fm & they said that they just put up all the popular song artists songs, like lady gaga etc, so that they have a lady gaga song in their qeue, then when someone requests a specific lady gaga song, they just play that one.

There are a few stations that do them so it all depends on the actual station.

pop radio, im positive they do. cause really how many different songs does a pop radio station play? 10 a day? they just repeat them. they probably get the same requests over and over and over again (since its a pop radio station) and make a playlist just so they dont play songs too close together

I guess it depends on the type of radio, but on my local station they have certain shows so most stuff they can't play, like the 6pm slot she just plays a wide variety and sometimes takes requests if she isn't planning to play them then at 7 she does the top 7 at 7 and at 10 it's love songs (late night love or something) so yeah, it depends on the shows really. :)

I guess the best way for the 'request line' would be to call it contact the presenter or show so they can also ask for a song aswell as a shoutout.

my radio reads them sometimes but only at certain times.
as far as im aware they have someone who plans the show for them and then the presenters do it so all songs are pre-planned
