I was in Year 3 and my class was having a story read to us. The tearful teaching assistant came in and told my teacher that the "world trade centre had been knocked down by a plane" - I remember going home and wondering what the world trade centre was and why it was so important; the majority of channels cut off to give the announcement, etc. I remember watching the news with the headlines scrolling across the bottom. One specific channel showed footage of the reporter running into a take-away to escape the smoke that was billowing towards them.

Quite odd how we can remember such things. So can you remember it.. and if so.. where were you? :)

I was in primary school and I remember coming out to meet my mum to find everyone talking about it. I remember then putting two and two together because earlier in the day the teachers had all gathered together and they were flitting between classrooms looking concerned and confused.

I remember on the walk home from school my mum explained to me that there had been an attack from people who wanted to cause trouble for the USA and they had flown a plane into two very important buildings and lots of people were killed.

before this she had been talking about dinner though so I was kinda distracted haha

In the car on the way home from school. I remember my mum telling me that two planes had crashed into a building or something. I remember that there wasn't any kids programs on and this annoyed me. Makes me feel a bit guilty now but I was only 9 at the time :D

In the school playground at home time, I remember hearing parents talking about it. I didn't really know what it meant until I got home and saw the news.

Inseriousity.

i was 12 in 6th grade, our math teacher told us while we were in class a couple hours after it happened. he said he wasnt sure if anyone died or who did it or anything like that (however, looking back on it, he must have OBVIOUSLY known at least hundreds of people died, since he told us at least an hour or two after the towers fell, he probably didnt want to scare us) and i had to really find out what happened when i saw my parents at home (they were let out of work early because of the attacks) and watched tv.

i was old enough to understand that it was a major catastrophe and that an incredible amount of people died, but i didnt understand the politics or implications of it. it was the first time i'd ever heard anything about muslims/islam.

I remember the day exact when we found out, walking out of school and everything. The first tower went down before my mum had come to pick me up and when we got home the second tower has collapsed. If you re-watch the news coverage on Youtube its so bizzare that that actually happened live.

I'm not too sure. I don't even think I found out for a bit later. Parents were going through a divorce, so I guess I had a lot going on at the time.

The teachers had decided not to tell us, or let us know anything was wrong and let us wait until we could get home so our parents could tell us. Nobody ended up telling me anything (of course) until I saw my father standing in the door hallway crying sometime at night. I've only ever seen my dad crying once before that when my granddad passed away so I was frightened about that!

I was in 5th period in year 5 and Christine our cook came into our class room because my teacher was the Deputy Head and the Head was not in school and because he had a daughter in NYC he sent the school home at like 1:20pm or something. I didn't even know what New York or what the Twin Towers was at the time and I didn't even realise the extent of what had happened.
