Okay so I had my heart set on a rover mini but have been told by a family mechanic that there expensive to keep and now I'm having second thoughts. I was thinking about a smart fortwo but put off by the automatic transmission, or then I was thinking about blowin the budget and buying a new style mini. Anyone have any experience of any of these cars? Or suggestions of any other smallish cars? :)

oh, and defo don't get a new style mini. my mate had one as his first car and got rid of it within 2 months because the insurance was killer.

i dont plan to pay monthly insurance on it anyways. as for the premiums. i was getting quoted around £2300 for a new style 03 reg mini, whereas about £2000 for a banged out 2000 ford ka. I think with it being my first its astronomical either way you look at it.

Who -repped for the 'stupid suggestion'. You do realise people can get them for the first car right? Hell, I'll be in a mates when he gets it on the road in a few months.

^ To be fair, it kind of was because the only people that get them for their first cars are extremely well off, and a total exception to the traditional "young person's first car list". Who, apart from these people, could afford to insure a 2.8 litre BMW at 17 with under a year's driving experience?????

rubbish, absolute rubbish. what insurance company and quote is this? "dodgy dave's motor insurance?" with no breakdown cover, third party only? i find it very hard to believe you can get insured on a BMW at 17 for £4k a year, i've never heard the like.

nope, big name insurances are usually expensive, where as smaller, less heard of or speciality insurances are cheaper. for all you know his dad could be in the motor trade.

You must have done some sick sick things in a past life to deserve that. Either that or you're just a fool. Possibly both
