View Full Version : Filter change from asterisks to "bobba"

I think that it would be quite cool if the filter on the forum was changed from asterisks to the word "bobba".

This is a Habbo related forum after all, so why can't our swear words be turned into bobba?

It'd be quite funny as well to see people going "bobba this, bobba that" as opposed to "**** this, **** that".

Furthermore, the asterisks are boring.

What do you think?

I want this! I totally agree and will help the forum become more Habbo-related. Plus a little fun too!

I'm afraid I don't think this is possible. The filter places one character per the charater of a filtered word. Thus if "Dog" was filtered, it would appear as "bobbabobbabobba".

Yeah I wouldn't have been surprised if this happened- overall it would have been nice though. :(

Are you sure?

Isn't something like this possible? http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=149118

Haha, this would be awesome. At the end of the day, we are indeed a Habbo forum! :)

Nope, I got told off a few months back for too many addons by Jin so his stance on that is pretty clear.

Don't do this. It's not just a Habbo forum, in fact, only a small section of the forum is actually purely Habbo based.

How about replacement variables?

ACP>styles and templates> style manager> "go" on the template you want it to work on> at the bottom replacement variables....or [Add New Replacement Variable]

But then you need to redo this for every single skin, and for every word on the filter. It's just not possible Dean, sorry.

I don't want this, its not only a habbo forum so it wouldn't be fair on those who use it for other purposes other than habbo.

It was worth a try :P

I'm pretty sure you can have it as one word that's not repeating.

Seriously? :O IPB (to annoy Jin :P) have always allowed you to add your own words to the filter e.g. arse = red squirrel or the astericks to blanket filter words.

Also, I'd rather have asterisks. Bobba is stupid, mainly because it comes from an equally (if not more) stupid company :P Or a better reason for not having it could come from Richie. It's not just a Habbo forum. Infact, the majority of forums are non-Habbo related.

That was my interpretation from the text next to it:

This character (or characters) will be used to replace censored words. For example, if you have censored the word 'dog' and you set the censor character here to an asterisk (*) then any occurrences of 'dog' in messages will appear as '***'.

So there is no box next to it which over-rides the asterisks? Like:

To Filter <box> - Output <box>

Do you have full admin permissions? It might limit the options... It's a guess at least :P

i like the stars because you can work out what it says, whereas with bobba you can't since its a set amount of letters

I want this because it will be hilarious also I'm fairly sure it's possible to set a replacement filter but if not we should transfer the entire forum to an old school 2001 Proboards site which definitely lets you do this

We could also implement a theme that uses the volter font :D

But on a serious note Jamesy is correct in saying there is no real feasible solution to implementing this sort of thing.

This is what I had on my Habbo based forum and it worked well but HabboxForum isn't a completely Habbo-based userbase though.

Please no. This would make the forum look ridiculous.

It would be funny for a while but then the novelty would just wear off. Besides, this forum isn't just for Habbo so it wouldn't be fair on the rest of us. :)

It would be far too confusing to see if people are actually swearing or just generally using the word Bobba. So yeah words are not good replacements for swears it's a lot better with Asterisks.

I agree with the asterisks, they should be kept. Based on the fact that at Mr-trainor's site, I remember the word 'Bobba' being used and I always got confused at what the person was actually putting accross.
I didn't know 'bobba' was the filter, at least with asterisks, you can see they are avoiding the filter.
With the word 'bobba' it would just be like Habbo atm, where people put bobba just for the sake of it.
And as it isn't all Habbo on HabboxForum it would just look plain daft, and I am sure you couldn't just enable it in one forum such as Habbo. So no point really.

I remember when you get people who say 'GET THE BOBBA OUT OF HERE' when you have your swear filter off :L

As I have said though, it would be really annoying, say in the tech forums as an example.

A number of uses don't use Habbo. If you implement this you may aswell remove the non-Habbo skins.

On topic, as the others say it would be unfair on the users that don't play Habbo unless you have an option to use bobba or asterisks but that would be pointless. :P

A lot of us use this forum who don't regularly use Habbo also.

Can't say I like this idea :(

I still think there should be a User CP option to turn the filter off, Habbo have it, why not the forum?

I disagree with the ability to turn off your filter. It would just encourage people to use swearing on the forum more often in my opinion, maybe.
As for people getting confused with Bobba, that was the reason for it's removal on my forum but saying that, I have seen many people who purposely use astericks in their statements :P
As for the skins, I think what would make this work is if it was only like this on the Habbo skins. I personally think that would be the best option for making this idea work, if it was to be considered :)

As said you'll generally piss off the non-Habbo users who use this forum, unless it can be skin customized. Anyway, I prefer it the way it is.

I remember wehn my mates owned a IPB and they filtered al the swearwords to rhyme with other words

like **** = James Blunt
**** = firetruck
**** = casualty

yknow we had fun. this would add to my habboxforum experience greatly.

Expanding on what Pyroka said above, I personally think cockney slang should be implemented into the filter.

Grumble and grunt, Jack and Danny, feather plucker, peddle and crank, charing crosser, granny flat, casablanca, candle wick, etc.

Moh

If you was to do this, you would maybe have to edit the filter functions
