Right, well for the HD PVR - You use Component HD

http://electrogear.thorie.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/Xbox_360_cable_avance.jpg

Which goes into the back of it, and then another of those comes out of the back into the TV (Supplied)
Then theres a CD with software on - the program to record. Just plug the USB cable into the computer/laptop ect.

The PVR only records 720p OR 1080i (not p)

Thats basically it :S

OR

http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/

Those are the same, but come as either a PCI slot card or an external like the PVR. And BOTH use HDMI - Better quality, Better sound, HIGHER FILE SIZE.

BUT these BOTH can use process 1080p HD

I'm confused.

So both can use HDMI to connect to the tv? :S

What's the difference between component hd and hdmi?

lol

Component HD can only display 1080 i or 720 p
Whereas
HDMI can display 1080p/i AND 720p

the HDPVR can ONLY use Component HD

and the 2 Black magic recorders can use HDMI

Ahhhhh well I don't care about 1080p really.

What's the difference between 1080p and 1080i? lol sorry for the questions and...

that's the component thing, so it goes from the xbox to the tv?
and then the other cables are supplied by the HD PVR?

confused lol

1080i is 1440x1080 with interlacing to display a 1920x1080 picture, whereas 1080p is 1920x1080. Don't bother with a HD PVR. They are poor quality and are very unreliable, I've had two and both have had an assortment of problems.

Go for the Blackmagic Intensity Pro Shuttle (the external option), Blackmagic Intensity Pro (the PCI-e internal option) or just stick with a regular SD capture device. But the Shuttle requires USB 3 which if your using a laptop, you most likely don't have and the ExpressCard USB 3.0 cards don't work with it.

The Blackmagic also uses HDMI (as well as Component on the Shuttle) to capture the 360 video, but I'm sure HDCP blocks you from using it on the PS3 without the use of a HDFury or similar.

Summary: Don't get it.

If im not wrong blackmagics cost a bit more but they're much better imo.

Alright so I shouldn't get a HDPVR?

how would you connect the external black magic thing and what are they going for?

Are you using a laptop or a desktop? If your using a Desktop then the shuttle connects USB 3.0 (with a £10-£15 USB 3 PCI card);

A laptop would need a ExpressCard;

But they don't work with the Blackmagic due to transfer rate problems so don't bother buying one.

If you can't run it still avoid the HD PVR like the plague, you are better recording in SD or not doing so at all.

I cant remember (i sold it last week) but i NEVER had ANY problems..

And Ardemax it'll cost about £150 IF you have a USB 3.0 port on your new computer, Otherwise you'll have to add the cost for a USB3.0 PCI-E card (which isnt that much really)

Do any pre-made computer's come with USB 3.0?

[Chris]

Some do, but considering its FAIRLY new, not many.

BUT you can buy a PCI (-e?) card to add 3.0 ports

Biggest waste of money ever you'll use it then get bored of it.

Hmmmm ok.

Well I'll think about adding that PCI on the new PC

Is the Black magic cheaper than the HD PVR?
