wow so many threads lately, but this is kinda important

im looking for a brand new custom made PC and i don't know what CPU to use, Intel or AMD?

i need the pc to be fast and have good memory, im going to do everything on it (from coursework to casual browsing, even editing) so i need something to last

my budget is around £500, £550 about max.

what would you recommend?

thanks

Either. May not help, but seriously, either.

AMD, never let me down :) All this Intel crap is just another marketing scam really...

If it was me, i'd go with AMD. Generally creating a computer entirely out of AMD parts would work out cheaper than using those of Intels.

AMD or Intel will do, seriously. They are both very good companies who make some great processors now a days, AMD normally have far more cheaper processors compared to Intel so it's really up to you. I've got an AMD CPU and it's been great since day one, no problems etc.

When I was going to sell an old PC a few years back people didn't seem interested in AMD but times do change.

Times do indeed change, some years ago people would say how ATI was very crap at graphics cards but now they are even out doing NVIDIA. So times do change and people do change their opinions! :P

I've always been an Avid fan of Intel and my opinions on AMD are still that they're are lesser quality than Intel because I have used both AMD and Intel, but Intel are now the basis of all macs, so Apple made the change for a reason and people do seem to claim that it's much better to get an Intel chip than an AMD chip. But as people said it really is up to you as they both are seeing some reputable companies throw their weight behind them, and my recent purchase of Sony VAIO had a AMD chip in it, and although I wouldn't replace my Mac with it, I wouldn't say the laptop was at all bad and the chip seemed fine to me.

AMD because of price, or Intel because it's always been sorta the main competitor so theres alot more out there for Intel than AMD...

But thats all changing tbh, whatever ya want really.

I've only ever had bad luck with my mobile AMD chipsets with cooling, although I suppose you could blame the computer manufactures for that too.

My current computer is running AMD Athlon II. In comparison to my old computer (an Intel Core Duo), it hands-down outperformed it in every aspect.

This is, of course, referring to gaming applications. If you're looking to use your computer for gaming, AMD is the way to go. If you're looking for general computing, Intel isn't a bad choice.

I recommend both processors as they're both excellent.

EITHER OR

Seriously, unless you're doing very intense video editing/rendering/cpu intensive stuff (Gaming is not CPU Intensive), then choose either brand and go hog wild.

(If you are doing that stuff, go Intel)

Rightio.

Well mypcspecialist has a well good list for custom made PC's.

I think i was going for one around the £500 mark and it seemed alright.

I'll post the specs up later and if anyone could tell me if they're good or not, that'd be great.

Ok here are the specs. Can anyone tell me if they're good and if the computer will have a decent memory and a fast speed? Thanks.
