View Full Version : CSS and IE
Hello
http://1409sqn.org/wip
Firstly - Yes, I have permsion.
Right, made this site a while ago with tables, and the nav was images with rollover effects; moving into the 21st century now so redoing site in divs and the nav is css.
However, hit a snag;
In firefox the navigation is fine, however in IE9 - it's too short..

What CSS do I need to add to fix this problem?
Many Thanks

IE doesn't follow Padding or Margin (I forget which) in the same way as Firefox AFAIK, If I'm right you'll need to use an IF CSS statement for IE.
Forgot to add - found out this morning
IE7: Broken
IE8: Fine
IE9: Broken.

Try adding
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8" />
inside the <head> </head> tags :)

if i go into development tools and put document mode to "IE8 standards" then it works.. but i thought IE9 was meant to be 'amazing'. :/

I heard that IE9 is broken because it follows standards closer meaning that code optimised for IE screws up :P
We can never win D:

I tend to use a reset.css file in order to make sure that all the default properties set by the browser are neglected and you define them all yourself.

It might help with your problem (it may not, it may even cause more!) so have a look :)

My beef is with my buttons in IE.
Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, Everything else!

IE8 (I can't check IE9 because I want to keep IE8 for debugging):

And then cookies. For the life of me I don't know what's wrong with my IE cookie woes. I define a cookie in PHP with setcookie() and it works fine in all my browsers except for IE where I have to restart the actual browser for any of my cookies to save ; I think this must be a problem with my computer though.

So they should stop trying to develop it :) The only people who like to use it are the casual PC users for FB ect :)

The average user doesn't care enough to switch to a better browser. I guess I can't blame them. A lot of us Habboxers are more computer savvy (geeky :D) so of course we know what to do :P

Until a browser comes along with proper Windows Domain support (i.e. Group policies) I know at least 60 odd computers that can stay with IE for the time being! :P

A reset file should work. Was your reset file imported BEFORE your CSS? If not, it will reset any margins and paddings you've given to elements. Make sure you import your reset before your actual CSS or use the @import at the top of your stylesheet to import it.
Also make sure it's resetting all of your elements, I would recommend Eric Myers Reset CSS (http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/css/reset/).

Mac has never had IE. Not even today. We have had Safari and another browser (either Opera or Netscape)
