I posted here as I wanted everyone's view on the competition that Matt hosted (eSocks).
The winner was BingoBenny, and although I do not disagree with the decision Matt made I just feel it was a bit of a disadvantage to the others who has posted days earlier.
BingoBenny had the newest furniture that was available, which made the room look even better. This then disables other entries before him from entering with an update of the room. Yes, other members could have entered along side BingoBenny but they didn't.
I just feel that in future, a room competition could either have a deadline extended until all furniture was released, allow the participants to update their room and re-enter it if they didn't know the furni was going to be released, yes, I know they coul just enter it later, but this would help in some way. Or just limit people to what furni from the catalog they can use.
Like I said it's not really a complaint, just a suggestion. :)
However, I do agree BingoBenny should have won.
What do you think?

I think it would most likely to forever extending competitions. I mean if people who had entered really wanted to win they could of re-submitted their entry with an updated version with new furniture that became available. Its not necessarily the fact people have new furniture that makes them a winner its how there furniture is used overall. I think once a deadline has been made it should be stuck to, you don't see Habbo extending deadlines whilst they introduce new furniture. ;)

But there is no information saying that once you hae submitted an entry you can re-submit. This would be an improvement if they explained that.

I agree with this really. It'll be an endless extension otherwise and I also think even if he used the newest furniture, it's the way it has been used. Only thing I disagree with is about re-submissions, they get too hard to deal with thus why you can't enter more than once in Competitions (slightly different as we don't do room competitions but still).

I get your point sam, and I did wonder this myself. If I had a better version Of what I had posted then I would of posted it again anyway, just using my common sense. But other people could be like "oh damn I can't enter again". So if you could re-enter during the competition then it should of been stated.

Yes you say it is how he used it, but what I'm saying he is the only one who used it and he won. I feel he won because of this, as the later released furniture are much better.
I also feel that room competitions should be PM based and shouldn't be seen by others until the final announcement, this way you can't know what you are up against! As some people see others entries, see that they are fantastic, and feel they can't make anything as good so they just don't bother.
If he didn't use the furni, what's to say Chris (marine) wouldn't have won though. It was just a thing I had picked up on.
Inseriousity.

Letting people re-enter is a risky business as one person who maybe didn't re-enter and having a good reason for it too (illness, away etc) then has a legitimate complaint to say 'omg but everyone re-entered, why couldn't I?' I think it'd be far easier if at the end of every room-related competition, there's a note to say that: To keep this competition fair, you are only allowed to use furni that is/was available before/on the start of this competition. So if a competition started 4th October, they'd only be allowed to use furni that was released before or on the 4th October in their room design.

That's what I said Mike in an earlier post I feel it would stop arguements. And also, say someone went on holiday on the 6th, submitted their entry on the 5th, then didn't come back until after it was over to find everyone got to re-enter, it's jus not fair.
But yes a limit to furniture used could be a good idea.

Limiting what furniture people can use will just ruin the point of the competition because you have to make your room unique and outstanding, you should be able to use whatever furniture you want imo!
I think it's just unlucky that everyone had entered before all of the furniture was released :)

But this meant BingoBenny was at an advantage, no one knew the furni was going to be released that soon so they just entered.
It wouldn't ruin the competition, it would make i fairer, afterall it's not what furni you use it's how you use it.

I agree with what your saying, personally I feel that he may have had an advantage and if I was judging them then I would have made sure that all entries had a fair chance and considered that some people entered when the furniture used in another entry was unavailable, when this furniture is the main competitions theme.
I think that maybe the competition could have been extended and I disagree that it would be a never ended extension, it wouldnt! It's not like we get new mode furniture every week because we don't.
As for limiting furniture, that's an interesting idea. However, you can enter from different hotels as stated in the competition thread and some hotels may have had other furniture first, so that does not seem like the best solution in my opinion.
When it comes to allowing people to re-submit, I disagree. Someone might enter first, see the second entry and then decide to re-submit with some of the designs/ideas used in the second entry. This therefore does not seem to me like a good idea :P
I think the competion was good but it just so happened that it was based around furniture which had just come out and was awaiting further additions, which then benefited the later entries. In future, you can begin the competition when all furniture is released or base it on an already released range.
I think a good idea for future room competitions held by the forum department, would simply be to post the competition on for example the 1st December and then only open the thread for entries on the 10th December and close it on the 11th December. This gives everyone a fair chance in my opinion as well as helping to prevent copying, although this was not really an issu anyway.

I agree now that maybe it should have been extended, but I was under the impression that most knew that new furni was coming out as it had been posted in numerous threads beforehand.
I like the idea that entries should be PM-based though, I'll give that a go next time ;)

I did know when I entered that new furniture would be out but I didn't know how long it would take which is what the identified problem seems to be.
I disagree with PMing entries for comps where there isn't a set answer. I like to know who I was competing against. If they were PMd, Id personally like all the entries to be posted at the end so we can see who entered and what they entered :P

Luke, that's an interesting point. I do agree that all entries should be shown at the end, that way no one gets put off beforehand, and also, noone can say that it was a biased competition.
They knew, new furniture was coming but no one knew when.
