JK Rowling hints at more Harry Potter books

JK Rowling said she was turned down many times before her first work was published

Author JK Rowling has revealed she could write more books in the Harry Potter series.

Rowling told US chat show host Oprah Winfrey that the characters were still in her head and she "could definitely" write several new books about them.

"I'm not going to say I won't," she said in an interview conducted in Scotland.

The author also said she was turned down many times before her first work was published.

When asked, she said: "My agent knows better than I do. I don't know but, it was a lot. A lot of people didn't want it. A lot of people just sent it back, virtually by return of post. It was like a boomerang."

'Faith in story'
She added: "I did really believe in it. I just thought, 'no, this is a good story'. For some reason, and I wasn't very resilient at all at that time in my life, I was a wreck in a lot of ways.

"But for some reason I can even remember being quite pleased with it. I know it sounds masochistic but I was even quite pleased with the rejection letters. I just had faith in the story."

Rowling said there was a "very low point" when a publisher said they were not interested in her work, having had it for six months.

And the author admitted that not all her children had read the Harry Potter books.

"I read David the first one, he's seven, and we're going to start the second one quite soon. My dread is that they'll go to someone else's house and see the films there before I get to read them the books," she said.

"So I should maybe send a slip round to other parents saying 'please do not show Potter films, have not seen yet'."

Clips of the interview were released on www.oprah.com (http://www.oprah.com).

I think I'd be able to think of a couple of "new characters" if I was making as much money as her too :P
Really hope she decides to write more :)

I'm not even much of a Harry Potter fan and I've known for years she struggled to get it published in the first place, it's common knowledge, not sure why the Oprah Winfrey show has only just picked up on it?

From what I've heard she seemed to write a pretty conclusive ending to the final book, is there really any need to carry on with them?

I do hope she does continue for a little bit longer. :D

If she writes it, fans are going to buy it.
I would do it if I was her!
For sure! :P

I think it's just the BBC trying to fill out the article by giving background info rather than just saying she's hinted about continuing.

I agree the ending is rather conclusive so I'm not sure where she'd go with another book. As Yupt said, tt would either do the series justice or completely ruin it.

Universal will be happy if she announces another book around HP - the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (section of theme park) would be guaranteed to be strong for even longer :)

the obvious one for her to write about is

all their kids that we see in the epilogue

though im not sure if that would be good or what the story would be? but if shes said that she must have some kind of idea what she would do it about

She is already rolling in the benjamins and people will continue to read the current Harry Potter books until the end of time. If I was her I'd just relax and enjoy the good life.

If she was to write a new one what would the story be about? If Lord Voldemort was to return again it would sort of undermine the whole struggle Harry went through to kill him..

Although I'd quite like to see her write a story set in the same 'universe' as Harry Potter I'd prefer it to be totally unrelated to the original chracters and if possible Hogwarts. Maybe setting the story in Durmstrang or Beauxbatons?

Lmaooo :) I agreee, the whole series she has now would be just pointless xD

I think her using the word masochistic is a little.. Wrong?

Unless rejection letters make her all tingly downstairs. Do a google search / definition on it, you'll see what I mean :S

If she was to write another, then OBVIOUSLY I would buy it, I own everything J.K. Rowling has ever published and this would be no different. I'd personally like to see a sort of prequel about the rise of Voldemort, sort of in the way how the Star Wars prequels were.

I'd love a book about the Original Order of The Phoenix, and how Harry's parents died and stuff. It'd be awesome.

EDIT: Although not to do with the books maybe a short movie of The Tales Of Beedle The Bard, maybe only on DVD and Blu-Ray.

It would be alrite if she completley changed the type of book. No Harry Pottter & Friends or Hogwarts but something different, suppose that would be goood (: x

It would be nice I guess if she did a book of like the happenings from 1-7 from someone elses point of view or maybe like, before Harry was born.. idk. I'd probably buy them as long as it wasn't "HARRY POTTER X YEARS LATER"...
