K! im a spag apparently, the poll should read, "Would you like to have a picture of yourself on your profile!"

This may have been brought up before, and i know its been brought up about pictures in avatars and signatures, but ive seen on some places that you can upload a picture and its on you user page. So for me it'd appear on http://www.habboxforum.com/member.php?u=35535 that page. Perhaps it could appear on the about me tab, or a tab of its own?

I know its been brought up a lot of times, and i know loads were against the avatars and sigs, but most of that was because people didnt want to see peoples faces all over the forum, and this gets rid of that. Itd be optional so if you didnt want to you wouldnt have to, and most would only do it if they were comfortable with what they looked like, and wouldnt take offence if someone insulted them, not that i think that would happen anyway.

Its just an easy way to see what someone looks like behind the post.

Thoughts?

(not that i would use it, mind lol)

Do you mean in the place of a profile pic? Like I have a profile picture -http://www.habboxforum.com/member.php?u=52752 Or do you mean in a completely different place? :p

ohh, ok, no i mean a picture of yourself there. if you can already have a picture of someone it makes it a whole lot easier to implement lol

I still don't know why people aren't allowed to upload pictures of themselves as Avs/Signatures. Wasn't it the Habbo Way that said that people should be allowed, and people don't have to if they don't want to. But for the people who want to, they should have the option. The choice should be there!! And I know if I wanna see what someone looks like, would be quicker to glance at their profile than it would be to search Papoy. I'm like that perving over people :L

The majority voted against, and aside from that management and myself included don't really want it.

Not too keen on it to be honest. We have a lot of young users who even if they had the option they would do it anyway - they may not be as wise online in regards to safety.

That's the same as Facebook though. They may not be online wise but they still use Facebook to post all their pictures? Are you saying that Facebook are in the wrong because they allow this...

I wasn't raising the point on what type of website Habbox is. I don't need your help for that. But my logic is still the same. People may not be online wise yet will choose to upload their picture. Facebook is just one example. Facebook is a social network which much is much alike a Forum for people. Therefore again. The same logic applies as this is a FORUM for Habbo Users and Non-Habbo users. People should have the OPTION regardless of whether their online-wise or not. Because if i wanted to see what some randomer on the internet looked like, I have Flickr/Twitter/Facebook. So it's not like people are protected anyway.

No, as mentioned below that's a social network and there should be age restrictions for facebook if I remember. It's also why the government are pushing for a "Help" button on facebook to the CEOP website because of the amount of children who are at risk by using the site (but that's a totally different matter). This isn't facebook or a social networking site and there's no need to see peoples pictures flying about on visitor walls - if you really want to be seen or look at other people they can use the PAPOY thread.

If you allow the pictures to be posted in the PAPOY thread I don't see a problem with the users that want to to have the option to :L

Yes the alternative to the "Help" button on Facebook is "report" on HxF ;) Help is only there for people who are being harassed not for people who post their pictures online. I really don't see a problem with someone having their picture permanently on their profile if that's their choice. No one's forcing you to look at them? And tbh Papoy is too big now and people use it for so much pointless posting that it'd be quicker to just put it on the Profile.

I voted yes, I wouldn't post my pic but we should have the option.

if we already have papoy where people post all their pictures, what difference is it going to make if they're shown on their profile (to the people who think ohno 11 year olds are gna post them on their profile OHNOOO. they can just post them in papoy anyway it's no different really)

These are basically the responses which are used to answer the people who say no. Id be willing to understand a good reason as to why you wouldnt be allowed, other than, 'management do not want it'

Pretty much summed up my view on the matter.

thats the thing with habbox though, if management don't want something it doesnt get done, regardless of what the users who'll actually be using it want.

yeah i don't see why not... if you don't want to show your pic - don't

What I'm confused about is how it makes a difference for those voting no? I voted yes, I'm not going to be using it.

Pictures not allowed - All people voting yes don't get to post a picture
Pictures allowed - All people voting no have the option of uploading a picture & those who voted yes can upload pictures.

Inseriousity.

I put 'don't mind' cos I'd never use it but I wouldn't really care if it was brought in. I'm not going to go stalking profiles for pics so everything would stay the same for me. :)

don't see the point in this

management don't like it so they don't really care about our opinion anyway. you don't HAVE to use it if you don't want to so whats the problem

Been mulling it over, I can see the arguments for (simply the fact it's not visible on posts). So I'll see what upper management think.

that's not true all the time!

Poor reason.

A good reason is because it doesn't look right and just comes off as untidy. Avatars as they are now are at least creative and give some idea as to the user's personality, or that's how I see them (sometimes):P

Also, it seems the vast majority are for it or are indifferent (indifferent may as well be merged with yes as it's self-explainatory). Was it like this last time? :/

they don't mean avatars gimme, I think they are talking about the picture only visible on the profile to older usergroups.

Oh right, there's already been a discussion about this? The only one I recall is the discussion about avatars :P Can't say I'd be fussed about profile pics... Are profiles looked at often?

Jamesy
08-10-2010, 01:02 PM
This is the only one I can think of specifically about profile pictures alone. I wouldn't say that often really, just to send VMs and such. Also oops silly phone autocorrected your name to "gimme" :P

I thought you were being adorable so didn't think anything of it :P

A profile picture of yourself could work, it depends what the limits are and any rules. Not sure if there is a purpose though if profiles are only really looked at for VMs and to find out their latest post. I don't know the statistics so can't really say :/

if that's the only reason profiles are used then introducing this could make the profile feature used more? just an idea, and keep the papoy at the same time :o

Having spoke with James we both agree that this is something that could happen, so watch this space. The profile is inherently different to the avatar, which shows on posts. The profile is, after all, a way for members to demonstrate who they are, their interests and so forth, so a picture on it would do no harm particularly because they are not accessible to guests which is an inherent concern of ours.
