View Full Version : Donations
I know for a fact that habbox needs a constant run of donations (yes staff forums) yet you don't promote the "Donate to Habbox" much, on the site nothing caught my eye about donating.
Then i actually looked for something related to donating and say this...
http://www.habbox.com/images/banners/mini-donation.png
...Really? You expect people to see that?
Maybe if you got the graphics department to make more banners like:
http://www.habbox.com/images/banners/ukmerge.png
saying "donate to habbo" you might actually get donations instead of the few we currently get:
September 2010-
,Joez. - 6 creds & 1 hc
August 2010
-=Mike465=- - Gold bar
Thoratix - 2 Throne Sofas
Past Donators:
AidenFTW24 - 1 throne, 95hc, 150 credits
StalinJoseph - 40 credits, lots of normals
Demala - 29hc, 212 credits
Wiizzz - 1 throne
Mr-Trainor - Lots of norms
(Thanks to the people who already have though)

To be honest it's quite clear that you're able to donate, we don't need to be wasting valuable resources from the graphics department making pointless banners. People mainly come to Habbox for the prizes and are well reluctant to donate. I doubt a banner is going to change that. I've never donated any large quantities tbh, and a banner won't change my mind. Will I in the future? Who knows. But a banner certainly won't persuade me. It's VERY clear on the Website that people can donate and also have a list of donators so there's no need for pointless banners taking up space that can be used on far more important things.

1. Wasting valuable resources from the graphics department?
They aint even that busy cause i speak to a couple of them and tis their job.
2. It isn't very clear you can donate on the site actually. Their might be a page but its not completely clear.
3. It won't take up space because that's what the banner roll is for.

1. To be honest they might not be busy atm but V6 is fast approaching therefore will begin to get very busy.
2. It couldn't be clearer. A page is enough tbh.
3. Who knows if that's still going to be there in V6? So why waste time now..

I'm sure there was a rotator banner made for donations :o! Maybe it's not being used, I do agree though there isn't much about donating although we obviously don't want it to seem like we want everyones furni or that we have none...:P

1. Tbh, Graphics don't have a lot to do with the site design, as that's what the site coders do. Like, most site coders are already good at layout designs, and I believe there is already a design ready (from that competition), so the most we would have to do for V6 would be create a banner probably saying "welcome to V6" at the most. lmao.
2. I disagree, if donation are needed just having a page under a tab isn't quite enough.
3. Of course a banner rotator of some form will be in V6. It is needed as the main advertisement of Habbox.com.
I agree with this donations thing. I think a department like Events needs this help. Nowadays, you need to have a lot of furniture on Habbo to cope with the events and be able to give out prizes which people are going to actually appreciate. I think there is some Events Survey going out, so this might give everyone an idea on what prizes people expect from Habbox, but still. I think donations for Events would be a great help.
EDIT: + Scotty, I swear there was a donations banner made too, but that mighta been time ago :P
Marriot:
They arnt busy now, it takes 2 minutes to make a banner hardly time consuming.
It can be clearer, not in your face just so more people know.
Also, it wont waste time if you read my first point.
Scotty:
I;m not saying habbox saying "PLZ DONATE TO US" just a banner maybe saying exactly what it says on the tiny tiny tiny banner thing.

tbh I never know were donations go, I'm sure we had loads of stuff and the only event where donations have been used is HxSS cause EOs need to supply their own prizes still right?

1. Well tbh Graphics need to be made to make the site look nice as well as the coding. And if you have little to do with the site, why the hell are you a department? :S Seems pretty pointless if all you do is make banners. I could do that in my sleep :l Habbox might as well hold competitions to get people to design their stuff for them. Probably be of better quality than some of the banners on the site. :l
2. A banner wouldn't change anything tbh. It'll just be a little gif that no one will pay attention to.
3. Not necessarily. V6 is meant to be a major "overhaul" so having a banner rotator would look old school when you could just have something that's a lot more Web 2.0 than just a ****** placeholder for gif file. No offence to whoever designed V5.

If they aren't busy and it take 2 mins, why have them as a department as I said, it seems just like a pointless department imo.
It really can't be any clearer. If people are interested in donating they'll notice the donate page. If you want to make it clearer just add a new tab saying Donate and link it to a thread on the Forum. Takes even less time. And it will waste time if V6 is meant to be "rapidly approaching"

The graphics department make most if not all the graphics you see around the site/forum/hxl except the layout...that's up to the site designers/coders/devolpers or whatever they are called to design.

Doesn't habboxlive use them? Oh but they get their own donation thingy right? :L
And competitions use them?
Thing if a EO held an event every week and had 4 rounds per event.
I used to give out like decent prizes and i just saw my furniture wasting away. If the EO's had a little help with prize giving then it would be more enjoyable and easier to host events, thus meaning more staff and events for the whole forum and more members.

Haha! You are so negative! The work produced in graphics isnt asked to be amazing. It's just site graphics. If it was a nonhabbo forum the graphics could be crazy amazing. Go sleep and make some banners then if you make them so good :)
People do pay attention to banners.
Also why are you trying to say stuff about the poor graphics quality when two graphics designers are in this thread? :L

He meant the V6 layout and new site design i'm guessing..

Their isnt that much graphics needed to the ratio of graphics designers. Most graphics designers can finish the task very quickly.

Yeah, I remember when MissAlice donated something like 500 HCS + god knows how many credits, and said they had to be used carefully, and I don't remember what happened to them?
@Jordan - If you have a problem with the Graphics Department, make a complaint.
The reason we don't usually have much to do with it, is because the person that codes the layout, usually designed it, thus the graphics department usually has no need to create anything towards it.
Plus, we create more than just banners, but banners are an important thing.
Plus, the site can't go too web2.0 or it will lost the whole Habbo theme of it. Which the banners/images created by the graphics department help to stick to.
EDIT: + Yeah, I meant we dont have much to do with the general layout of V6, we still make some site graphics, just not the actual layout usually.

I'm not negative? I just have an opinion. And if the graphics aren't amazing then what's the point of having it as a department where people are hired?! :L You'd think if someone's gonna be put in a position they're hired in, they'll be good at it. ;)
And I've never once paid attention to the banners, they looked too tacky for my liking.

Because they are not asked to produce mind boggling graphics just graphics that are needed. You submit your pixel work and see if you get a graphics designer job.

That is hardly fair towards any of the graphics designers now is it? The graphics are now of a very high standard, and there is never any complaints about them normally just compliments lol.
Anyway maybe we should keep this thread about the donations and not your hatred towards the graphics :P

It's just if the person who's coding the layout is going to make the graphics, what does the Graphics Department stand for? :S It really doesn't make sense. Martin used to make banners for the News Department, not exactly hard :L
And Habbo itself is Web 2.0 so why can't Habbox? :L
Maybe a little more awareness about donating could be had but nothing that should receive priority. It isn't really important and the only people who are going to donate to Habbox is people who are loyal to Habbox and that usually means they're registered on the forum and familiar with donating and stuff.
Where'd you get that donator list? Must be pretty out of date since the last time I donated a throne was many months ago.
Did you get them from here? Or from the main Habbox site. (I didn't check.) (http://habboxlive.com/pages/donations.html)

Think this thread is going off topic.
Jordan - The graphics made are in the style of Habbo. You obviously don't like the Habbo style, so that's why you don't like the graphics.
If it was non-habbo designs, then it'd be a different story as most of the Graphics Designers are also amazing at non-habbo designs.
Also by not being too web2.0 I meant, going non-habbo instead of sticking to a habbo design.
Now back on topic, I still think there should be a scheme for donations to reach events?

Arguably, EO's should only take up the role if they think they have a sufficient number of furniture to give out as prizes - but I understand that this is not never ending but is an actual requirement when applying (I believe?).

I have no problem with Habbo-style. I just think the banners are a little tacky and look cheap. The colour scheme is just all wrong in them :l And if it was Non-Habbo designs and used the same clashing colours, I would think the same way ;)
Donations will never reach the events team because quite simply there's too little donations and as I said a banner isn't going to change that.

That's HabboxLive donations that list is always kept upto to date :P I know HabboxLive rarely get donations now as well, I dunno I remember a while ago both Habbox and HxL used to get a lot of donations I just think people don't donate as much anymore!!
Arguably, EO's should only take up the role if they think they have a sufficient number of furniture to give out as prizes - but I understand that this is not never ending but is an actual requirement when applying (I believe?).
Yes but its nice to have a little help so you can make more events and give better prizes.
Maybe some sort of question/survey needs to go out and find out what sort of things people expect as prizes and if they would ever be willing to donate certain things to Habbox?
I'm sure that roxy will include a prize question in the event survey.
Inseriousity.
05-10-2010, 02:27 PM
HabboxLive have their own, which now is veryyyyyy little, forgot about competitions but they prizes are like a few HCs a week hardly a lot though :P
Average 30 HCs a month. Hopefully, changing currency to credits which will be a bit more expensive as well.
Graphics Department make what they're asked and make them to a high standard! woo go graphics.
As for donations, I imagine there are probably a few more than the page would suggest as not every donation is reported (Whoever updates the page - roxy? - needs to be told that there's been a donation for it to end up on the page) and sometimes people donate via the (assistant) department manager. e.g. jess donated 20 credits to comps very recently. So I think a better reporting system could help, a thread in the management subforum or a PM (although I'd probably forget with the latter tbh). Also, V6 is coming so it might be a good idea to make donators more visible on the main page. Not entirely sure but I'm positive I've heard that there was going to be more 'donations coverage' somewhere (probably a managers' meeting)

I don't think people would donate any more than now if it was advertised more..
And it'd be nice if the donator page was updated regularly and backdated :-P
I know that I donated a load of HCs during HxSS but was never put on that page lol.

I'd love to see your graphics designer application, Jordan ;)
Graphic designers are here to make graphics requested by managers - which is how they should be requesting graphics, not making their own, which has now been sorted.
I'll have you know that the designers in my team are actually of a very good quality, rarely is their work faulted or criticised - since being manager all I have received is positive praise.
