View Full Version : [Minecraft] Construction of my Underwater Base.

Hi, just thought I'd make a new thread for this because the Minecraft sticky is kind of more about Stutos server and updates atm. Here I will be posting my progress as I construct my underwater base, which I hope to have completed (the outer shell at least) before the next update where sea monsters are added!

So the first thing I did was look for a good location. As you can see my current [sky]base is quite a distance away from my spawn point. Even though it's only a minutes cart ride away, I'd prefer something closer. Also because I want to explore out this direction next, I chose to make the underwater base here:
http://images.andrehamon.com/s/2010-10-06_231448.png

So the first step in making an underwater base is to create a solid chunk of dirt. This can then be surrounded by glass so that the dirt can be excavated without any water coming in! Here is the outline:
http://images.andrehamon.com/s/2010-10-06_230158.png

Next I will fill in this outline with any material at hand (gravel, sand, dirt etc.).

Stay tuned :)

theres already a thread for minecraft (http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=661564)

loljk

What are you planning to have in the underwater base? When do you expect to have it completed?

Make sure you make an underground farm, I love them. :)

It will be double level, in which will be included an underground/water farm, storage room, incinerator, smelting room and whatever else. It will also have a fishing hole which I hope to use in November :P

Okay, so I have finished adding the glass roof to the structure.

Next I will remove the surface entrance, construct and underwater passage way to the base and will also add the glass walls.
BTW, does anyone know why the water is acting like a little ***** -.- I thought that the entire sea/ocean was source blocks. I took one bucket out of that spot at the bottom of the screenshot and now its a block of running water o_O

That looks really good! I failed mega hard at making an underwater house :\\

Ok, have finished the exterior layer of glass aswell as a rough tunnel in to the base.

Nice! Quick progress! Also, the ocean is source blocks, yes... however, if the one next to it isn't a source block for WHATEVER REASON, the source will start run into the non-source block.

And a Cartograph render.

Hopefully, tomorrow I will be doing the downstairs flooring as well as fixing up the entrance tunnel, along with other things I'm sure.
Night guys :) (or morning -.-)

fantastic, im still making a bridge thing like yours at the moment, but it has running water in it so i use boats to get around ;)

i also failed at making underwater bases lol

Amgz, stickie thread, BLAAAH! Nah jks.

It looks pretty cool, and underwater bases are less unacceptable to attack by mobs... I'd build one myself but because Notch removed sponges I'm really far to lazy

It's looking good, keep up the good work!

Is there a way to use commands on single player (assuming this is on single player) as it takes too long to collect everything!

u can use an editor to simply put in the stuff into ur inventory, but lets be honest that takes away the fun/amazement of creating truely awesum stuff. Might aswell just play creation then

Mmk, quick update :) Ignore the temporary torches on the floor :P

Yeah, it's easy enough to go around gathering resources...took me like 10 minutes to get a whole bunch of sand and then maybe another 5 in caves getting coal. Then a few minutes in the furnace and I had enough glass for the entire structure :)

Omg, just had a FIRE WTTFFFFFFFF moment :/ Luckily all I had to do was punch a few holes in the roof and it was extinguished...I think I will build down another level and make it like a boiler room/incinerator in the basement. SURROUNDED BY ROCK.

Hmmmk, I've pretty much finished. Everything is sort of laid out how I want it and there is still quite a lot of space left.

Base from above.

Track down from my spawn point tower.

Base entrance/cart station.

Underground/water garden.
http://images.andrehamon.com/s/2010-10-07_151907.png

This was the incinerator room, but after a little incident, I decided to move it to the basement. Will probably extend the minecart track out that way to the right.
http://images.andrehamon.com/s/2010-10-07_151945.png

Under the stairs is a passageway downwards to the incinerator.
http://images.andrehamon.com/s/2010-10-07_152056.png

Lobby/Entrance area.
http://images.andrehamon.com/s/2010-10-07_152123.png

Top of the stairs, a huge unused space. (ideas?)
http://images.andrehamon.com/s/2010-10-07_152155.png

Small storage/construction room.
http://images.andrehamon.com/s/2010-10-07_152253.png

And the fishing hole you have seen. I've found it makes a quick exit also.
http://images.andrehamon.com/s/2010-10-07_152432.png

And the finished Cartograph render.

Bonus night isometric render.

are less unacceptable to attack by mobs...
Sheesh, I knew I was tired last night but how did I confuse unacceptable with susceptible

Wood isn't really the best building material, especially if you're relighting a torch and you miss (From halloween update onwards), fire spreads quickly.

Also, using hacks is basically like putting it into creative mode Notch just hasn't coded it in yet.

Verrou

Wood is fine. It's an underwater base. I don't use hacks.

Verrou

Any suggestions as to what I can add in the huge unoccupied space?

Art gallery, Mini Rollercoaster, bamboo farm etc.

Verrou
09-10-2010, 07:09 AM
Not to fussed on making a Bamboo/reed factory as I don't really use bookcase blocks. Won't be making a mini rollercoaster, I have quite a large rail system and I prefer functionality to aesthetics. I will make an art gallery somewhere with several doors behind art works. Hidden entrances are quite cool.

Have added a tree farm beneath the bottom floor. It's rather deep!

Bamboo/Reed factory is to fill the gorgeous places you have. Also, automatic cactus farmer!

Verrou
09-10-2010, 08:33 AM
Hmmm automatic cactus farmer sounds cool. And hmm I need to keep an eye on my trees :/

How high is that tree farm of yours?

Verrou
10-10-2010, 07:44 AM
6 from ground to ceiling. But 8 if you include the light spaces. Trees need 4 spaces above the sappling to grow. Also, I have added a small cactus farm. It's only temporary and will make a larger one later.

Am getting tired of my underwater base tbh. Anyone have any other ideas/structures for me to build?

Josh
10-10-2010, 08:09 AM
Release save please? :)

Anyway, is it all linked by minecarts?

Verrou
10-10-2010, 09:31 AM
No chance on releasing the save sorry. I would feel that the world isn't unique to me anymore...And what do you mean by "all"?

The only minecarts I've used are to link my 2 bases together via my sky bridge:

When you expand a little more over the mountain, you can set up minecart tracks to various places.

Yeah I hope to (if I have time) make an automated cart system like in this epic video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EMRbucCLu0

What's your screenshot of?

Ardemax
10-10-2010, 11:47 AM
Verrou, I'm making like the london underground system (sort of)

have loads of stations, some above ground and some under. I'm in the process of it all and it is REALLY fun (suprisingly). It might be an idea, and then once you've created different tracks and routes just build things around them.

Verrou
10-10-2010, 12:02 PM
Yeah, I'll have a Grand central of sorts with button that change the track to different locations like the one in the video. And hopefully I can go adventure, build some sort of base and connect it to Grand central :)

Ardemax
10-10-2010, 08:56 PM
Yeah how does that video work exactly?

Verrou
11-10-2010, 02:43 AM
Lots of red stone. 6 floors of it or something lol.

Josh
11-10-2010, 12:14 PM
hahahahahahahahhahahahaha. i wont have anything close to that. Just random tracks off to random spots. nothing automated.

Verrou
13-10-2010, 05:46 AM
Lol just watch it a few times, quite simple once you understand it :P BTW my building is on hiatus atm :( because my computer crapped itself and I am getting a new one wooooooooo.

Ardemax
13-10-2010, 03:05 PM
I don't know if I could work the redstone thing out, are there simple tuts to begin with?
