View Full Version : MSN for Mac 2011 problems
I have the latest MSN for Mac 2011 which comes with Office for Mac 2011 BETA 14, and I can't change my display name. I've tried everything but I'm not sure what to do.
Any ideas?
Sorry about the tacky contact list scribbling.

I know in the new Windows Live Messenger it sets it to your full name (more like facebook) - it may apply to the mac version too?
Hmm, so you can't change your name on WLM for Windows either?

Tried looking in the preferences? I know that it's a bugger to change on WLM 2011 or whatever it is called for Windows.
Edit: I believe you can but it's like "First Name" and "Last Name", can't confirm as I haven't upgraded yet.

You can't. It takes your Windows Live profile's full name.
I've looked on the other tabs of Preferences but can't find anything...

I have that version installed and if I double click my name it lets me edit it.

I've tried, it won't let me edit my "display name", just my real name?

That's how you have to change your name now. Unless you go back using an older version of MSN for Mac or another alternative such as Adium.
This sucks. Oh well :(
+rep to anyone involved.

Try downloading the latest version, then double clicking your name.

It appears I have the latest version and you don't! :O
Oh well, they might've just stopped people from changing their display names in the new versions - no fuss.

It appears I need to learn how to count :P
That's really weird, though. I'm not sure why it wont allow you to change your name by double-clicking.

I'm guessing it's because of what Microsoft wanted to change. They have done it in the newer versions of Windows Live Messenger, 2011 for example on the Windows platform. I'm not sure what they are trying to achieve by this but it's one of the features that should of never been changed or removed.
