k basically i've got an interview to work for a shop (shop 1) tomorrow right. but then again next monday i also have another interview for a different shop (shop 2) altogether.
what should i do if working for shop 2 would be way better than shop 1, but shop 1 decides to take me on but then shop 2 also decides they would like to - how would the best way of letting shop 1 know?
Just proceed to both interviews until you get notification if they'll take you on. If Shop one takes you on but not shop two, obviously take one. However, if they both offer you a job, just tell shop one and say that you've been offered a better job elsewhere. Simple as that. If you feel sympathetic about it and Shop Two turns out bad, shop one could possibly give you another chance.

Just ring them up and explain you won't be taking their job, it'll keep your future rep if you do end up re-applying and then mean the job can be given to someone else quicker. Good luck getting one though Matt
Just go to both job interviews, see what happens... if only one shop takes you on then obviously go for that one.
If both companies offer you the job then you should go for the one which feels right for you; distance / time to get there, money paid, how much you like the company etc.
The best way to tell the other company, should you need to tell one that you are declining the job, is to just tell them truthfully that you have accepted a different job but you would like to still be kept on the books for possible future jobs which may occur - they always say honesty is the best policy.
The other company will more than likely have had other applications so they will probably just decide to give the job to the 2nd person who they would have chosen.

All you gotta do is tell them, they can't exactly do anything except not accept you if you re apply and even then I doubt they would turn you down (if they liked you in the first place).
where are you applying? :L
Just go to both. Say nothing about the other shop/interview when at both and be just as enthusiastic at both. If you get the job at shop 1 you might not find out until a few days after anyway. If they tell you there and then you've got the job take it and be happy.
If they ask when you want to start make sure you tell them a day some time after the shop 2 interview so you're not starting and then quitting a few days later. If you then get the job at shop 2 as well just call whoever from shop 1 and tell them you've decided not to take it.

Go to both interviews, wait for both answers and decide.

what makes you think you will get the job in the first place? :P
but if you do, just ring them up. they won't mind at all. infact they''ll half expect it
you should include which one is cheapest to get to & from, who you'll be working with, & most importantly which pays the most

I don't think this could have been said any better. Just because you land an interview with two places doesn't mean that you've secured two jobs, or any at all for that matter. Take both interviews. If for some reason they both accept you, outline the pros and cons for both jobs. When you find the job that you think you'd like better, tell the other employer that you have indeed found a better job and that you are thankful for the opportunity. This is crucial, for the simple reason that if something happens to where you are no longer able to work at your first choice, you can always reapply for a job with the other employer. If they see that you were diplomatic and appreciative of their time, they're more likely to give you a second chance.
Like I said, Wiizzz said it best, but I felt the need to elaborate. Hope this helps. ;)
