The fansite rules have been in place for a while now and I'm sure that Habbox not being able to sell VIP has caused a drop in income. My idea to boost income is that you introduce an all new "Premium Donator" rank that costs more than the standard donator. Obviously you wouldn't be able to offer any extra features as this violates the rule however users that purchase Premium Donator as opposed to standard Donator will be able to choose from an all new exclusive colour range and will also receive a usergroup that says Premium Donator rather than just Donator.

The price could be anywhere between £2 - £3 with standard donator being £1.50. Even if only a few people change from standard donator to Premium Donator, this update will of been worth it. :)

Not sure why anyone would do that personally. Most is for the coloured name.

Off topic; at xmas is it VIP or donator?

VIP but goes to charity

The idea behind Premium Donator is that people who are willing to pay more each month to help the forum can do. Or perhaps people would want it for a more unique and exclusive coloured name?

Unless fansites receive special permissions to sell VIP at Christmas then I doubt it. Unless they are able to because the money goes to charity?

It's a nice idea, not sure if there would be any real point to it, but I suppose it couldn't hurt to try it. You could add the feature to view who repped you to the premium, so people would have more incentive.

A while ago Habbo told all fansites that they were not allowed to sell premium features, that's why VIP was removed. Adding the ability to see who repped you would basically be selling premium features again. I know, it sucks...

Someone suggested it a while back when you couldn't get the VIP+ colours on Donator (Or at least I think you can get them now, I swear Dodger Blue was exclusive to VIP+), I think they want to avoid adding more colours so that they don't lock out that colour from being used elsewhere (People do bulk buy this things, when VIP stopped being sold some people bought three years worth).

Maybe a feature of premium donator would be the option to change the colour of your name.
Not sure if anyone would buy it though :P

Having the option to switch between any of the Donator colours would also be good!

I'd definitely buy it. xD

I think one of the rules that Habbo gave us was we weren't allowed to give exclusive features other than the ones we currently have. - So I'm not sure this would be allowed.

I don't understand why people would be inclined to buy it rather normal Donator if we could not add any more features.

This could work but the problem is that there is already six or seven donator colors so what new colors could possibly be added to premium donator which would persuade people to make the switch?

love the idea, but don't think it would work on a practical level (how it would work etc)

Maybe we could think outside the box. Rather than just new colours, how about different fonts or special effects? Habbox God rank being a good example, it's like a dark gold colour that sparkles. Perhaps multicoloured names such as this could be made:

Donator

Although that doesn't really look too good, the green is too hard to see and I cba changing it. :P

I think that most people would sooner buy two months donor instead of paying double the price for a single months donor. It is a good idea but I don't see it working and for people who do wish to donate larger sums then they can but they have to speak to Jin about doing so. As for us selling VIP at Christmas, we are allowed to do this but we do have to donate 100% percent of the proceeds to charity. We have been doing this since 2006 and since the option to offer the premium service was removed from fansites.

Also to add to Mr-Trainers point, I am sure that giving people extra colour choices for donor if they buy a 'premium' subscription would be pretty much like offering VIP to encourage people to pay for it which again we can't do.

Look at VIP+ - loads of us bought that.

It wouldn't really be like VIP - you are still only paying for a coloured name - just you get a few more colours - just like you get for buying donator.

I know what you're saying but we would be giving extra options (even though it is the same thing, really) for more money which will probably be seen as a premium service by Habbo.

Have we had any acknowledgement from the charities like letters or whatever that used to be posted?

At Christmas can there be other colours associated with different charities?

We did have an email from Livestrong a couple of years ago but no one has a backed up copy of the image as all links we did have are now broken. As for the last few years I don't know, I guess only Jin could answer that.

well then maybe you could do some specialist bulk buying offers for a special occasion with a new donator colour (halloween is coming up)

say buying 2 months for price of 1, it would encourage more people to buy etc,

Habbox are easily making over £100+ a month from their advertisements and there is at least one person buying donator each day which is £30+ a month.

I think they can do fine without :)

It could just be speculation. There's quite a few people that purchased Donator (myself included), and I'm sure the links they have for advertisements are making them some profit.

From advertisements, my site makes a fair bit from google ads - and habbox is a much larger fansite.

As for donator, more than 30 people have donator every day..

Sammeth.
12-10-2010, 10:32 PM
That doesn't mean at least one person buys it every day? I know it certainly wasn't every day when I was GM. Even if there was one subscription of Donator bought every day that's only £45 made in a month which is barely much considering the high server costs Habboxwide.

Bumped to hopefully get a reply from management with the main addition to the suggestion being you create some trendy new designs for our names. Much like Habbox God, I would pay extra for donator if it meant getting a nice name like that and I'm sure others would.

Well we aren't going to make new subscriptions and put up the price if no one is actually going to buy it. In regards of new colours/design or whatever you want to call them then I suggest you keep an eye out, we may have something for Halloween and I know VIP that will be on sale at Christmas will have some sort of effect.

Maybe you could make a poll saying "Would you pay x amount for Premium Donator?" and show one or two examples of the name fonts/colours that would be on offer. Just a few ideas off the top of my head could be a handwriting name, so basically a font of nice handwriting instead of the usual bold font. Another might be a rainbow effect for people that want a bright and colourful name. One that might be popular amongst the Habbo players would be a Habbo font in the traditional yellow. It just depends how creative you want to get and of course what is possible and what isn't.

Well we did sort of. Usually we contact the charities first directly to tell them what we have been doing on the site in order to raise money for them which results in a personal thank you letter. Last year we didnt we just paid each charity via their website out of lazyness mainly but also because we had to make 2 separate payments per charity one for paypal and one for sms.

So what we got in reply was something like this:

Dear Jin,
Thank you for your donation. We at blahblahblah really appreciate it and will use your contribution to build new unicycles from bicycles for our new unicycles from bicycles campaign.

Here is some more marketing info which will hopefully make you donate on a monthly basis despite the fact that you have donated over £100 already in one go.

Regards,

John Smith
Vice Deputy Chancellor in Chief of Charity Communications

So we didn't bother showcasing it.

It seems like a well recieved idea now but at some point in the future someone is going to argue that they should be priced the same as a different font or colour shouldnt double the price.

The fact the idea calls it premium donator and the fact sulake have used the word premium to describe what they're against would probably cause trouble in itself lol

The main reason for this idea was so people who are able/willing to donate a little more each month can. The exclusive range of fonts and colours would merely be a bonus and also give more people an incentive to choose it over the standard donator.

People have no right to moan about it costing more. If people want the colour, they will pay for it.

Yep, no point going down that route.

It's just as simple as not giving us the ability to change it ourselves, then we won't be buying the features.

Although, I'm not sure how good being an official fansite is nowadays. I guess there's a bit of exposure when people visit the page :/. Probably not worth it since Habbo will catch on immediately.

Official status is hugely important now - more so than ever. Without being official you can't advertise your site on Habbo is my understanding of the current rules. HxHD would have to close and no events advertising Hx etc.

Lol okay as nice an idea it is I am pretty certain we are not allowed to do this due to the official fansites T&C as it could be regarding as "selling" which is why they wouldn't let us offer extra forum features (even though its none of their business anyway).

However I would like to take this opportunity to divert your attention to something I regard as "Premium" donator if anyone can find it on the forum :P. It will be released tomorrow.
