I just thought i would post about the Chilean miners who are being rescued from being trapped over 600m below ground level.

So far they have rescued 14 out of the 33 miners who were trapped / are still trapped in the mine for 69 days.

They are estimating that they will rescue the last man within the next 30-40 hours time.

Congratulations & the best of luck to all of the people who are connected with the rescue and the continued rescue of the miners still trapped down the mine.

It is an awesome effort and I praise all those involved, a lot thought those guys would die down there and I'm pretty sure they felt the same, it is truly amazing to see this happen.

At least they all stayed active by doing little jobs and didn't just sit there waiting to die and now they know that they are going to be rescued and saved - what an amazing story and the shots on the TV are great as we can see every little detail of what is happening.

Just an update for people who are not watching this on the news or anything ...

16 of the 33 miners have been rescued & the current prediction for the final miner is around 12 midnight tonight.

So just about half way through the rescue mission & it's all still going very smoothly.

I was going to read this post, but then i saw the extremely noobish name and left it..

Anyway, thats all the weak ones out, now they are bringing out the ones they think are stronger. 17th on his way.

And they dug a very thin tunnel to send down little tubs full of food, drinks aswell as things like flags and razors.

68 days :O , How are they getting the food and stuff?

They had some already stored down in special areas just in case this happened... also they had tubes which led to and from the surface which allowed small items to be sent to them, so they had daily capsules which gave them food and bottled water.

One of the days they got sent down a projection screen which allowed them to connect to a TV on land which then allowed them to watch films and TV shows. They had films played to the regularly and they even watched a Chilean international football match.

After they were found (after 17 days) they were in full contact with rescuers which meant they were always in contact and could tell them about any problems which may have occurred.

This whole operation has been carried out exceptionally well. There's just so many intricate, moving and proud parts to the story that just make it seem almost fictional in a strange kind of way.

Best wishes to all the miners and their families.

They have had special lights sent down to them which supposedly mimick daylight so that the effect on them now won't be so bad. They had light from the vehicle's headlights too.

Pretty good information about the whole ordeal in the Times today. They put lines across the page to show the actual diameter of the capsule, with a map of the tunnels and where the different drills have gone. All along with info about the capsule itself - painted in the Chilean flag colours, oxygen mask, radio, belt to track heart rate, etc.

Capsule is also named Phoenix to represent the mythical bird that rose from the ashes. All pretty awesome imo. Obama seems to be saying something now.

Inseriousity.

I loved their spirit. Trapped under ground must be an awful experience but they laughed, they joked their way through it (didn't they ask for a blow up doll lolol). Glad to see they're getting out before the jokes wore thin.

Just 12 more miners + any medical staff or workers left to get out now.

They were arguing who would be last out just so that they could be put in the records book being the last out :P

It's one of those nice stories for the end of the news segment. Awww. I like stories like this. But they are miners so they're used to no daylight.

Yeh i get what you are saying but no daylight for 69 days is definitely not good for the eyes.

25 rescued of 33. 8 miners + 2 workers to go!

Really glad to hear that they have started bringing them up, almost got them all by the sounds of it now? :)

Haven't watched the news tonight so I guess I will just have to see what happened when they brought them up on youtube.

It'll most likely be a worker, who would know what to do anyway.

I know they started getting showing off with the last few seeing how quick they could get them up!

22 hours the whole rescue took place to get the miners out.

Hopefully they will all get better from any problems which they may have and try to get back to a normalish life.

Genuinely a remarkable news story, rarely do you hear news like this. I'm just amazed it's all gone so well and they're all in good health, the efforts made by all seem to be amazing too.

I bet they could make a fortune turning it into a tourist attraction if they made a proper lift for it.

Never thought of that. It would definitely be something to see, you'd be able to experience just how far down it is and what the living conditions were like.

Chilean Wine has been predicted to sell much better round the world too. Also the company that provided the $400 Sunglasses, the coverage they've got from this is equivalent to a $41million marketing campaign :P

I thought someone was joking when they said the glasses cost that much :O It was an impressive story. It's nice to actually have some good news for a change.

I never actually thought of that. It would be pretty cool if they did, surely it would attract people to Chile.

The Times said they were Oakley sunglasses; bet that was the best investment they've ever made :P

I love stories like this make me all warm inside :') I like how they changed the camp name from camp hope to camp hope fulfilled :) Plus if they made a tourist attraction out of it and people were to go down wouldn't it be a bit dangerous if there was a rock slide again? I may be totally wrong but I usually am :L
