Hey,

So I don't know about the feasibility of this idea with vBulletin, nor if it's a hack or not, but I have seen it in effect. I was on a phpBB board just now and I posted a reply to a topic, and as I posted it, the page reloaded and showed a post on the top. I was really confused, then I saw a message on the top "There has been at least one new post since you last viewed this thread. You may wish to review your post in light of this". I'm paraphrasing, I can get the exact text if it really matters.

Basically, if there is a post between when you hit the "Post reply" button, and when you hit "Submit", the forum will first show you the new posts that were made above the box with your post still in it (the new posts are displayed where your message would be displayed if you clicked "Preview Post".)

I think this would be incredibly useful as there are many times when you post and then realize someone already said it. An even bigger issue is sometimes you're posting and you miss very relevant posts because it slipped in between the last reply and your last reply.

I acknowledge that it can be easy to edit, but sometimes (especially in the case of the latter), posters don't notice. If you have to restructure the entire forum or make a major hack for this, then obviously its probably not worth considering, but if it can be done with relative ease then it would be a very advantageous feature to have.

Like a slightly drawn-out version of the "live threads" idea that's been shot down a couple of times? I must admit this is a more appealing idea than 100% live threads, especially in bigger threads which require a lot of multiquoting etc

Yeah I like this idea, especially if put to use in forums such as the feedback forums where extremely lengthy posts can be made (like Immensemans right now) and then humongous replies are made, some of which may be making points you wish to. Though knowing vB it won't be possible without having to change a huge load of stuff.

Yah it's always annoying when you've MQ people and then you reply and someone else has posted and you have to edit. Would be a good feature to have!

I like the idea too. I hate it when I have to rush to type something before someone else jumps in and does it before me. It would save people having to checking their posts and editing, and what if they go over the edit allowance time?

I know that you're able to edit a post if someone's already said it, but what if you have nothing else to say? You're left with a pointless point.

its ajax, I don't think (as far as im aware) vbulletin have released this themselfs but i can garantee theres a plugin out there, I'd quite like this but only if the sever starts to be a nice fast machine, Because if they install this, plus the server is crap and slow then we are going to be bored waiting.

Yes this is certainly possible with vbulletin through the plugin here (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=201228), I believe HabboForum used to use this.

I think this would be a great plugin for us to install however I think it was brought up a few months ago. From what I remember we we were told it was glitchy and the server wouldn't be able to handle it.

I'm inclined to disagree if that's still the case. I think we should install it :P

Isn't this the plugin that was brought up some months ago and then people who have seen it been used on other forum saying it wasn't that really good with keeping up with replies or was some sort of a crap at doing what it was designed to do. It's a nice feature to have but I just remember some comments being said about it not really being that good if it's the same plugin as before.

I know it's technically not live feeds but I felt the downside of this is, that if you used an advanced reply you're not going to see a reply on top, are you?
Also, as I am going on about my knowledge of live feeds, they have this on TryHabboForum, and although can be useful it can be so annoying when sometimes you are in the middle of a reply and your screen shoots back upto a top when there is a new response.

Actually, it would only work *with* advanced reply. Well at least, that's how it worked on the forum I saw as there was no "Quick Reply", it's all "Advanced" Reply, though really it's normal reply. If it is only Advanced Reply for vB, I think that's ok, as the longer replies tend to be made with Advanced Reply anyway (though it's not always true).
