So I did a bit of spring cleaning etc, removed all components, reapplied thermal paste, cleaned out the dust, rearranged a little and put them back in. However, now when i power up my computer won't POST, everything is on, all the fans are running but that's it, both monitors show black screen. I resat everything, replaced the CMOS battery, checked for any shorts and tried powering it up adding one component at a time but I'm at a loss. It's not the video card as a tried using another one as a test so i'm guessing it's a mobo problem, the things been acting funny for months so i think it may have just died. Any advice?

Static electricity ;) I be you didnt wear a static strap? and I bet you just held your mobo, this will have killed your mobo most probs :)

Oh really? ;)

Sorry immature moment.

Have you double checked all the wires have been plugged back in? Does it keep turning itself off after a while, then powers up again automatically?

Musta been static, Rmemeber to use static mats and the strap, but I never used either so you got unlucky ;/

Never used static mats or straps and I just pick motherboards and stuff up with my bare hands, there's no reason for them break (and actually components are a lot more static resilient than you think) unless you're very unlucky. Just make sure you touch your power supply/case whilst it's plugged into the wall next time.

I didn't use to use anti-static equipment until I killed 2 motherboards in the space of a month. I'm never touching components without a mat/bracelet again.

Never used static anything. Walk on carpet all day w/ no shoes or anything, never broken a component from it ever.

Did once use a bit of metal to try and prop up a graphics card by mistake. The graphics card in question is dead. It was only to try and get PhysX working though.

Tbh it was all good in the end, the mobo was dying anyways as was the processor, somehow managed to screw £250 off my dad for a new mobo + cpu deal and 4gb of ddr3 memory
