Billy Ray Cyrus (http://www.billboard.com/news/artist/billy-ray-cyrus/2309) and his wife Tish, the parents of teenage pop star Miley Cyrus (http://www.billboard.com/news/artist/miley-cyrus/772285), have filed for divorce in Tennessee after 17 years of marriage, the pair told People (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20437267,00.html) magazine on Wednesday.

"As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family," Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus said in a joint statement to the celebrity magazine. "We are trying to work through some personal matters. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers."

The couple have five children including Miley, who became a teen sensation on her "Hannah Montana" Disney Channel television series and has built on that success with a singing career. Billy Ray Cyrus has long enjoyed popularity in country music, and also appears on the "Hannah Montana" TV show.

Country singer Billy Ray Cyrus and wife Tish Cyrus have announced they are divorcing after 17 years of marriage. Famous daughter Miley may have to pull out her dad's old 'Achy Breaky Heart' single to get through this one.

"As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family," the couple said in a statement. "We are trying to work through some personal matters. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers."

So after 17 years, what could possibly be the cause for such extreme measures? In divorce papers filed this past Wednesday in Tennessee, the couple are citing irreconcilable differences.

A source close to the couple made the statement that contrary to some tabloid speculation, there was "no third party responsible", and that, "It was a long time coming. It is the best thing for both of them".

The couple have three children together, Miley, 17, Braison, 16 and Noah, 10. Fans wish both of them the best and hope this doesn't cause any extra emotional baggage to the children's lives

i am actually quite shocked

It's one thing when you're reporting every little about celebtrities, but when you start reporting about their parents too its just like who the hell gives a damn, and if they do, why?
