View Full Version : Rare Values Articles [Your say]

In another thread, I brought up the idea of having articles, by the rare values team, that you, as the user would like to read. It is understood that Hbbox is not being used as much for Rare Values since the merge - and the Market Place being brought it..
If the Rare Values department started doing articles as well - about rares etcetera, what would you like to see?
- Predicted Rare Rises and Falls
- Shock Rises and Falls
- Trade statistics (using market place to get sales figures)
- Rare Values Management says...
What other articles/parts of an article would you want to see?
The problem with "Predicted Rare Rises and Falls" is that people could invest in that item and force the price to go up. Kind of influencing the market.

Depending on how popular this is, I wouldn't mind perhaps having one rare values themed article per week on the front page of habbox too? Like a weekly roundup of the world of rares or something. I think it would be quite interesting for our Habbo readers, and provide a nice link between rare values/news.

That is why it would say 'predicted' - it's not definite and as long as people are aware of this, I do not see the problem.
I'm all up for this. My reply to your thread yesturday:
"Writing articles on the market is actually something I was about to speak to Dan about before deciding I'd come see the feedback forum first! :P I remember when Lost-shark used to do trading tips but when he left, no one was able to take over even though I'm sure a few people including myself offered to do so.
I think that if rare values management in particular did some kind of weekly market overview, then provided it's done properly it could be a great success. I think that this could include some of the most significant and/or unexpected value changes since the last article could be included, as well as predicted increases and decreases as well as a comment on the market as a whole and the items and sections recently released, and a link to where they can be found on Habbox Values. Obviously this can be played around with to make it popular with everyone :)."

Yea, I presume that is what would happen. It would be much better on the Habbox homepage rather than the forum because more people can see it. However, I think that maybe under the Rare Values tab there could also be another page which shows only the rare values articles :)
It would be predicted, yes. But if something is predicted to rise, people want to earn money off it. So, they buy the item and so does 25 others. Price is going to go up.

Not necessarily. If I sent a message to my friends list saying that I predict thrones to rise, I doubt anyone would act purely on my prediction.
This isn't meant to offend you but Habbox, which has really good and reputable values over the years would have more backing by users than a random console message.

I know that but what I said was only an example. What I mean is that, particularly now with the marketplace prices, what Habbox says won't cause people to act without consideration. If Habbox was to say 'Thrones are predicted to double in price' people would probably just keep an eye on the marketplace for a sign of a value increase.
A few years ago, I'd Habbox was to say the same thing then it most likely would cause an immediate effect but what I'm trying to say is that people won't go purely by Habbox. Not the majority of people, any way.
Even 25 people willing to buy heaps of them would put the price up.

I know what you mean but I don't think people would buy heaps of them and spend all their credits on an item because the Habbox rv management predict that it could rise. Obviously, it does depend on how much the item costs though. If Habbox rv management predicted the Throne to go up the people wouldn't go and buy 50 of them because most people wouldn't be able to but if they predicted ocean sleeping bags to go up, then more people would be able to bulk them. It all depends on how much trust they have in the rv managements predictions and how much they have to spend.
I personally feel that it is much harder to predict things now with the marketplace and the current state of the market. However, that's only me so there could be many people who may read a rv managers predictions and instantly believe it and therefore act upon it.

Skizzling posted in another thread with this idea; Make guides on how users can make a profit (playing games, trading for profit, betting etc). Another one which would attract users, especially newer users of habbo.

I agree but there are already guides on the forum. However, I don't think that the guides should be in these articles but at the end of each one there can be links like:
- Check out our guide on how to make the most of your furniture
- Check out our values guides to help you with trading
And possibly others.

This is something i have always wanted to do an i've toyed with the idea on multiple occasions. When we merged hotels i did a little page called 'Merge Watch' it lasted a week or two and i basically put items on there that i expected to change in price (going up/down or staying stable) most of these are predictions and athough many did come true (common sense to guess what was going up and down in the merge) somethings did not behave as predicted and i did get a few angry people claiming to have "put all their money" into items i said would go up but didn't. You can't ever get it 100% accurate.
A couple of years ago this was easy to do, for example it's Halloween so i could have said to buy things like Halloween cauldrons etc etc but now due to the marketplace this would have been a stupid mistake to make. The halloween cauldron is something you expect to rise at this time of year but guess what, it didn't, it actually fell. Someone put once in the MP at 24C (6C lower than it's average) and that meant everyone else put theirs in lower and lower meaning it soon ended at 20C. So yeah, it's really hard to predict.
Although it is easier to guess with things like the throne, everytime new items are released into the catalog it is guarenteed to drop, people are selling off their throne for credits to buy the news items. Then once the hype of the new items die down, people think 'oh i'll buy a cheap throne' then the price starts to go up and up and up again.
But overall this is starting to become an even harder thing to do. But i will think about it as i think its a great idea, it's something i've always wanted to do.

I agree Dan. Like I said before, it isn't as easy to predict things now than it was before and it is because of the marketplace. A great example of this was with me and my petal patches earlier :P Put them in the Market at 27-28c (lower than the 29c cheapest) and they all sold until there was 8 left of 28. At this point the cheapest offer seemed to drop every 10 minutes!
It's easier now-a-days for people to sell things quickly but only if they sell them cheap, so that's what they do. However, a cheap one off offer on the marketplace is enough to affect the value of an item, which is unfortunate really!
I still think this should be considered though because it's still a great idea. I think it should definitely go ahead as an article regarding the current Market state but if needed, the predictions part could always just be taken out and only mentioned lightly in other sections. For example 'The Market as been up and down lately for many common but high priced items. Items like the Throne and Granite Fountain are very low and we predict they could go lower!'

It does seem a good idea in theory, but if the predications part was left out i can see this article being the same every time, just saying the market is going down and down.

I think this would influence the market too much. Frankly the rare values staff should just do their jobs.

I know what you mean, but at the moment there isn't really that much point. Not being rude, but it's true.

Who knows what their job is though? Personally I think that we should all try to strive and change the role if it helps for the better, competitions changed immensely from December to January last year, I think it helped tbh (please, let's not get onto that now though as that's for another thread). Rare Values needs help with the marketplace in action and I think reviews is great now that Lost-Shark doesn't do that Rare Prediction thing anymore (ages ago, I know!). This would be the same and is something unique for Habbox. Do it.

Spot on. Also Aydan, I do not think we can talk about influencing the market too much, when for over five years the UK hotel used our values like a bible..

Anything that is unique in my opinion is worth a shot if it could bring people to Habbox.
