Would this custom build work or not?:
http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/3821/imagevgvs.jpg

The case I would use would be this:
http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1570.html

So would it all work together? If not then what should I change?

I looked earlier, but wasn't sure.

Is the third thing a motherboard AND processor?

StefanWolves

Yep, it's an Asus ITX mobo which has an intel atom 330 processor.

Looking good. Where's the power supply? (Assuming it's not one of those mITX mobo with a power brick :P)

EDIT: My bad, didn't see the case came with one! :P

Also you may want to find an mITX board with Nvidia ION.

Whats the difference?

Could you suggest a better board? I'm crap at stuff like this :P I'd like it to be similar to the one I already stated above though...

---------- Post added 31-10-2010 at 07:36 PM ----------

It says this on the mobo spec:
Intel Atom D525 Dual-Core CPU
Intel NM10 chipset
Next-generation NVIDIA ION graphics
USB 3.0
WiFi 802.11n on board

Aha, you're sorted then! :P

You sure it'd all work? I've double checked but I'm not experienced at this sort of stuff! I don't want to buy it all at once for it to be wrong and have to wait even longer :P.

Also, do you suggest I buy Anti-Static wristbands or is it not needed?

Recursion

It all looks fine to me, may want to wait for some input from someone else just to make sure :P

I personally don't bother with antistatic wristbands and stuff, just touch something metal that's plugged in like another computer to discharge yourself first.

StefanWolves

Hmm, wristbands are only like £3, may as well be 'safe' :P

Gonna get this case instead:
http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1570.html

Don't think the Blu Ray drive will fit in it so might have to just go with a DVD drive, van always update it in the future?

Arghh if I had that one I could put in the blurry drive!!

To confusing :(

The motherboard has wi-fi built in, so you don't need that wireless card. It wouldn't have fit in the case anyway.

That DVD drive won't fit in the case you need a slimline one such as one of these

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151459 - DVD-RW
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/242242 - Blu-Ray

You're going to need an adaptor to power it and connect it to the motherboard too. (I don't think it will come with an adaptor)

And you can't put a disk drive in that cases BTW (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1020.html)

I assume this PC is going to be attached to a TV and used as a HTPC? If so then I probably would.

And it should be fine now. The case *may* come with an adaptor cable BTW. According to this it does http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1133/3/ but you may still want to get that one to be sure.

yeah it will be connected to TV via hdmi, will use for the odd coursework writing up too. i have a ps3 connected to my tv too so im not sure that i need the bluray drivr, its only an extra £20, so i dunno.

For futureproofing, get the blu-ray

What OS do you plan on running?

StefanWolves
01-11-2010, 05:34 PM
I plan on running Win7 pro, maybe dual boot with WinXP

Jam

You wouldn't need XP if you had Pro, you could just run the virtual XP enviroment. Plus are you sure an Atom could deal with 1080p? I know it can do 720p but I'm sure it struggles with higher (although what you're getting may be newer that what that applies to).

StefanWolves

Hmm it says this on the spec:

Supports HDMI with max. resolution up to 1920x1080x32Bppx60Hz

So I presume so?

Markeh

Just because it supports it doesn't mean it plays it back flawlessly.

StefanWolves

It doesn't need to be flawless, I'd hardly use the bluray.
