This man is a joke (Clattenburg), how did he let that goal stand? Should never be allowed near the Premiership again.

The referee never blew for a free kick and then when he saw Gomes put the ball on the floor and leave it he was just stood with his arms out asking what he was doing...

I do agree that it should have been a free kick to Tottenham tho

Nani handballed it, Gomes runs over to the linesman who says "I know, handball". Clattenburg then runs over and shoos the Tottenham players away to talk to the linesman, Ferdinand however is allowed to stay and say his party. Clattenburg asks "Was it handball?" which the linesman replies "Yes" and then Clattenburg gives the goal. It's not the first time he's made a 'mistake', League 2 beckons him.

That referee will be stabbed soon enough.

if this freekick wasn't given, which is wasn't, then the goal stands simple as. That isn't the issue. The issue is why wasn't it given and why was Gomez being an idiot aswell. He shouldn't have moved the ball forwards and then thrown it in front of him? if he had left it where it was and set up for a free kick i would have thought Nani and everyone would have got on with it.

At the end of the day though it doesn't matter that much in the schema of things because as it stood we would have won anyway. Would have loved the aftermath if we had of won because of that!

Well not really, if it's 1:0 you push on in the final six minutes however if it's 2:0? Ugh. It's not often I wish injury upon a player but Nani grates on me I'd be close to wanting him injured, the way he celebrates the goal like it's an amazing goal. He's celebrating like that because he knows it shouldn't have stood but he's got away with it. It's a shame he acts like that as his shot after that was very nice.

The issue is the ref is a dumb**** that needs to go back to ref-school. :| In the scheme of things, it could change the game completely. 1 goal down, you think you can come back, so you try harder. 2 goals down, and especially a goal like that, your morale drops steeply and you just try to finish the game. If that goal was disallowed I reckon Tottenham would've come back, and at least drawn.

It was a freekick, and Gomez was setting up to take it. The linesman had said it was a freekick. Nani should be suspended from playing for a month for that -.-

LOL why he asked the ref if he could take it and he said yes i haven't blown and he had been telling gomez that since he put the ball down so i don't see what nani did wrong? he was as confused as anyone that he was allowed to take it!

play to the whistle.. the linesman flagged after the referee gave the goal - too late to disallow it.
it looked as if the ref played advantage too following Nani hand balling it. Advantage lasts for 4 seconds, and by the time Nani tapped the ball in the net, it was an open ball in play.

Nani was clever with that goal, there was nothing wrong with it at all, ball was in open play and on the ground therefore he was allowed to kick it into the goal.
I don't see the problem.

yep agree with this completely questions need to be asked about the ref nothing else. It would have been worse to go back on the goal

Gomes wasn't given a freekick but he still went to take one and Nani capitalized on the situation.

There was nothing wrong with the goal.

All people saying Mark Clattenburg will be stabbed or should go into league two should rethink. He is (in my opinion) one of the more respected premier league referees. He handled the game well and usually does.

Gomes was an idiot and - should the linesman have wanted the free kick he would have explained this in full to Mark and I can't see how or why he should over rule a decision like this.

The linesman said it was a freekick, Gomes lined up to take it, nani kicked it in? If anything that's a red card :|

The linesman doesn't give the final decision. The referee is the man to listen to, not the linesmen.

If the linesman says something, the referee has to stop play to discuss it or give it instantaneously :|

No he doesn't?
The referee is in charge of the match, not the linesmen.
The referee decides whether or not the linesman is right, and ultimately decides what decision to give. He doesn't have to go with the linesman's decision at all (although the referee normally does).

There was no consultation with the linesman and the referee before the goal or during and play was stopped after Nani had taken the ball from Gomez to net it. Clattenburg then went and spoke with his linesman and awarded the goal.

I haven't had a proper look but the referee makes the final decision. Regardless of it actually being a free-kick, if the referee doesn't blow his whistle then the game carries on - play until the whistle.

just goes to show how referees are so used to players grabbing the ball when they fall over to force an ultimatum for the ref (like gimme this free kick cos you wouldn't dare reverse it and give them a free kick for me handballing it ******..).
