View Full Version : Is Halloween dying?

Conservative,

Do you think it's dying? In my area it seems to be. Today we've had 1 person knock. A few years ago it was 30+. maybe it's just my road but also I haven't been to a Halloween party for a dew years, whereas I used to get invited to lots.

I'm only 14 so kids still trick of treat at my age...but it seems to have died.

We haven't had one, then again we never get any. There are only about 200 people in the village where I live, mostly old too. *depressed*

I was thinking maybe it's just my road, but it seems to be a lot less people trick or treating everywhere.

I remember there used to be lots more too. :( When I used to go trick or treating myself, there were always loads of other kids going around too.

Tonight has been really quiet though yeah. I'm currently eating all the leftover sweets its that bad :(

Had zero trick or treaters here. Very strange.

yeh none at all this year, usually get some. I dont think its dying as a holiday, but the amount of trick or treaters certainly is

Conservative,

My parents bought a multi pack of cadburys mini bars. We've given out 2 of about 40. In years past we'd be scraping around for sweets because all the ones we bought had gone. :s

Yeah the holiday is clearly still strong, but not trick or treating.

Me n my dad were thinking at about 7.45 thats it nobody will turn up ... another year where we get no-one coming ... then 10 minutes later got a knock on door and there must have been 15-20 little kiddies there... we were like omg wtf where have all these come from... ?

Started with a big bag full of sweets (of which I get if they dont go) and ended up with only 1/2 a bag left!

But then that's all at once - some kind of party I guess?
Still haven't had anyone..so weird.

I was out tonight from around 6 till 9 and it was like a ghost town around here. We were just walking around with eggs and a paintball gun looking for fun but there simply weren't any trick or treaters excluding a few we saw that were too young.

I know holidays always feel to die as we get older but there's no denying the amount of trick or treaters has decreased.

People like you are the reason it is dying, or at least trick or treating is.
Parents are too afraid to let there kids go out and trick or treat because of what people like you may do.

Same goes for the teens, they don't want to go out and get egged or anything else.

Nah, it still exists :P It's called going out, getting drunk and partying in some club dressed as a mangled angel making out with a limp zombie :P

Besides, it's a Sunday. People have to be up :)

We had about sixty this year. Maybe it's just that there's less kids in the neighborhoods, not that it's dying.

We wouldn't of thrown eggs at someone unless they were asking for it. :P

Besides, all we ended up doing was throwing them at buses/taxis. I wouldn't say that it's people like us who are making it die because there have always been people like us when you get to that age when you are too old to trick or treat. If you are so young that it has to be your parents decision whether or not you can go trick or treating then they are obviously too young for people our age to throw eggs at or w/e so that doesn't make sense.

It's a Gary Glitter nation, the amount of children dwindling will have something to do with the media scaring parents.

they still trick or treat at your age!? isn't it a bit immature once you get two or three years into high school? i think its due to increased crime in my area and the fact that ten years old on the street at nine in the evening is not a great idea. In other news, teenagers egging cars & houses has gone up in my area.

It's called having a bit of fun... I suspect you spent your Halloween inside on the computer?

We had a good time, what do you expect us teens to do on Halloween when we are too old to be all festive about it. People of any age can have fun with eggs, even we had people probably aged early 20's throwing eggs at us from a car driving by. Lighten up and stop being so boring, you sound like you're about 50.

Only had a few this year, and all on one day not like 1-2 days before. I'm glad it's dying, pointless tradition. Glamorises begging imo.

So your definition of having fun is being incredibly inconsiderate to bus and taxi drivers (and anyone else that you decided to throw eggs at), because it's certainly not fun for them.

Oh, and by the way, I love how you made that comment about what I was doing on Halloween, just because I insulted your methods, great action there!

We only egged people if they also had eggs, but it ended up where we couldn't find anyone to egg so we just launched them at royton taxi rank (abdul central).

I just assumed that you spent Halloween at home because of your boring attitude towards traditional Halloween fun. Egging and practical jokes have always been a part of it.

No that's just cruel. Also throwing anything at the front of a bus window (especially an egg) is also an idiotic thing to do, not only would it **** the drive up but it could also reduce his vision.

i think it definitely is. teenagers use it as an excuse to go out and dress up ****** and get wasted (guilty) and parents are scared of taking their children out or letting them go out and trick or treating now. we had one trick or treater yesterday, we had 2 or 3 last year and before that we had loads, like 20 odd. there wasnt any horror films on tv last night either, not that i could find :S i think its definitely dying... quite sad really

Families aren't to keen on Trick or Treating in our region due to a little thing chavs do - "Mischief Night".

I work in a kids play centre and the amount of familes that turned up with kids dressed up over the weekend was uncountable. Turn back 5-7 years ago, there were crowds of kids on the streets...

I have had 0 for the last few years.I think its just not as popular any more.Manly due to the saftey aspect. No one wants there child to be running around asking strangers for sweets when who knwos what could happen. Also most people dont wanna be running around in the cold any more.

We used to get 30-40ish people a night but these past few years it's gone down to about 10 :P It's probably partly due to the fact all the kids (myself included) have just grown up and stay indoors; but everyone else seems to be noticing a difference too.

Oh, and egging is absolutely pathetic.

I don't get the whole dressing up as non-entity thing. It's Halloween for a reason, and I don't want to open the door to a few 16/17 year olds dressed as 'pole dancers'.

I hear Halloween is much bigger and better in America.

Yeah they do massive events at theme parks and haunted house nights and stuff. Sounds amazing.

To be fair, the amount of trick or treaters does vary by area and theme parks such as Alton Towers have it all setup spooky for Halloween.

Had more people knock on my door when the poster "Sorry, no Trick or Treat" was up than I did last year when it wasn't. But yeah, over the past few years it has been gradually declining in popularity.

I've not considered Halloween alive in the UK since I spent two weeks in the States at this time. It is absolutely fantastic over there. In comparison the UK is terrible.

Can I ask how old you are apple? Cos I know everyone in my old school had an egging houses, cars etc phase which is why I stopped going out with them most of the time cos they just acted like rebels and **** but now they're 17-18 they have actually grown up.

Also one christmas I stopped them egging the father christmas float that comes round for charity. JUST SAYING COS I FELT LIKE A HERO

Yes, when I was little people were racing to the doors before the sweets ran out and nowadays no-one t-o-t's around my area so I'd say it is dieing, everyone's growing up!
