It really gets aggravating to some people when bands like Good Charrlotte and Simple Plan are called 'Real Punk Bands' because they arent. No offense to you, if you like them, but they are posers. As I said in a different post, there was a pic of GC with one dude with tattoos, piercings, and the liberty spikes. Now, you see, that just doesnt go with them, in their latest hit song the dude hits a high note like a damn woman, yet you look like that? Wt.f? Simple Plan is not as bad, they have a good song or two. There were some good pop-punk bands that werent posers, like Blink 182 or Sum 41. "Punk" music was originally just doing something origanal, The Ramones were one of the first real punk bands, followed by The S*x Pistols, The Clash and many others. Nowadays its not like that, as much. There are some acutual punk bands still, which I am about to name a few of. Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, The Causulties, The Transplants, Lars Frederiksen and the B*stards, NOFX, Bad Religion, Operation Ivy, GoldFinger, Sublime, and loads more. Even though some of those are Ska too. Also, in the GD post someone said that Punk is dead, well those bands I listed prove that it hasnt died yet.

This rant is over, all inspired by the post about Green Day. Wow. Btw, GD is, in my opinion, two styles, real punk [early GD] pop-punk [after the release of AI]

Also, just curious, how many people here know of the 'Fifteen Dot'? Its a neat little tattoo. Figured I could add that seeing as all of Green Day of the Fifteen Dot.

*Note - Fifteen was a punk band. A few people have the tattoo on their left forearm. Members include: Green Day, Operation Ivy, Fifteen, Amy Dumas [Lita of the WWE]

First, well said. Secondly, here is one great pop-punk band left, IMO Sugarcult <3

People are far too obsessed with putting a label on things, and then deciding whether it's cool or not.
And as for the whole "punk is dead" thing...they should come to Birmingham...we have an abundance of punk and ska bands, most of them are actually better than most of the big bands today...

That is true. We cant lable everything, but it is annoying when people dont know what they listen to

their album dookie, Ive had since I was 4

O_O My god, 4?!? I was never introduced to punk music. My parents were too busy with their own lifes. Anyway, I quote;
Punk is not a sound, its a lifestyle. Billie Joe, Green Day.

Ok that has nothing to do with anything to I just thought I would post that for no reason whatsoever. Yup.

P.S: Were I live, there is a whole punk scene. I can't count the bands without getting dizzy and fainting XD And the lead singer in No Reply worships Green Day, by the way.

Punk is just a label. It was once Punk.Like you said. Now its a label.I hate it when i get called punk or goth.I may dress like a punk listen to punk music(Proper) but im not a punk.Im just me.I like simple plan and good charlotte. But for them and some of their music.I disagree with you saing good charlotte are punk though. In a recent interveiw they were saying ''Our music has no genre. We are our selves.'' Simple Plan however regard to themselfs as ''Punks''.Wich i think they arn't.School of rock is based on punk.Ramones, nirvarn the S*x pistols yada yada ya.They should bring History Of Punk into our schools.

Sorry tht it veered of topic half the time.

Sorry just had to let that out.
Yes i know my avatars Benji Madden but i like him.As a person.Hes vry interesting.
And i'll try and find the interveiw.

Punk... A word I like... I could talk all day about it...
It's a type of style of dress sence and how they think people can treat them... I am a big Good Charlotte fan and I learned what it is by them.. Take me for instence... I dress diffrent than everyone else, and I can't take it when people judge me. I also say that my parents can't tell me what to do... I will make mistakes and I want to learn from them.

>:O
It's a fashion trend now - and has been for a few years, when I was at school, only about four people in the whole year liked that sort of music, and then came the whole thing, and tons of little kids were running around wearing stripy socks and their dad's ties, singing avril lavigne - not that there's anything wrong with avril lavigne, but that was kind of the start of it, it led to a lot more commercial punk bands breaking through.
Now you get a lot of very immature kids who just want to fit in, it's all psychological really and there's nothing wrong with it, the exact same thing happened in the 80's.
In the 80's everyone was a "punk" - which pretty much contradicted what punk was supposed to be.
In a few years time, this whole thing will be over, and most people will move on to the next "in" thing.
I don't know if this is making any sense, but it's almost 7am and i've been up all night...so forgive me!
makes sense to me anyway :/

THANK YOU for declaring that Simple Plan and Good Charlotte are not punk, as well as new GD.

Once again, thank you.

Punk is not just a dress sense for one, and how can you learn a lot about punk from Good Charlotte when they aren't even a real punk band?

Swing swing swing from the tangles of my heart, it's crushed by a former love, can you help me find a way to carry on again.
Wish cast into the sky, i’m moving on sweet beginnings do arise she knows I was wrong, the notes are old they bend they fold, and so do I to a new love.
Sorry, random post, I just read your sig and remember the song! I haven't heard it for about 2 years!
And Jen, you're the type of person I'm talking about in my earlier post.

That was mean dude.

Im not huge into punk, but I do like some. I really hate the people who hate green day just because of their music now. Some people even think they are posers :p They arent though. Look at them back in the late 80's early 90's. Not original, but not posers.

Oh man, I hate the people who didnt know "I fought the law" was a remake. A remake of a clash song, which was a remake

Every remake is like that. Thats why I am starting to hate remakes of songs, because everyone thinks they are new. No one at school believed me when I said 99 red balloons by goldfinger was a remake, until I showed a few of my friends online.

Ok, here are songs I got annoyed by because people didnt know were remakes:

I fought the law- Green Day
99 Red Balloons- Goldfinger
Behind Blue Eyes- Limp bizket (Or however they spell it)
Im a believer- Smash mouth

Ill think of more

Haha indeed! and people are even more shocked when they find out that 99 Red Balloons was a german entry in Eurovision song contest...
Behin blue eyes = a great song, but I think Limp bizkit totally wrecked it.

99 red balloons is a great remake because they made it their own. In the behind blue eyes remake, it was just a different voice singing. It was cheap

Im too lazy to read the whole thread but Good Charlotte have never labelled themselves as "punk" So when you all say "bands like Good Charlotte aren't punk!!" you're absolutely right :)

SkaKid77

You destroyed it rightly ;) Punk is a label just like everything else, and it seems whoever decides who fits where is totally warped...i saw a poll once saying

"Are Busted?:

Boy Band
Rock Group"

Seriously, punk is just a type of music, Pop-punk is a made up genre to make Busted and McFly look more rock (possibly made up by Top of the Pops and other shows like that), Green day are punk, one album doesnt change that.
