I know this position was scrapped so Alex got the Assistant Manager Role. But I think it should be brought back.
For example if Mike or Alex resigned then competition staff to Assistant Manager is a big jump in my opinion. Don't you think?

I feel a downside for having such a big jump is that, there will be all the normal competitions staff who think they may get the job - then they don't, which may cause a bit of an arguement as some may have worked harder and have been more dedicated than the new assistant manager.

Jin himself said that management positions are the user's or staff's worries (or decision).

I think management are quite capable of picking Normal Staff for a management position; I know I could.

Josh what do you mean in the first bit? I thought Jin said that it wasn't the users worries? I know it is the staff worries. But a Senior role lets them grow in the department if you get me.
But I see where you are coming from.

Sorry about that, I meant to edit it but then my internet cut out.

And surely you don't need a promotion to "grow" in the department.

Ah I think I get what you mean now. Vaguely but ok.

And I know you don't need it to grow. And I know you can't leanr managerial skills until you are a manager, but I was just seeing what others thought. I was just thinking that maybe a Senior role could help you. But if it's not to be it's not to be. :P

You say that an Assistant Manager is too big a step up from Normal Staff but the Senior Competitions Staff and Assistant Manager role are the exact same. Alex's role stayed the same, the name was just scrapped and changed to Assistant Manager. I was against (not because of Alex) changing the name as in that case, it really just makes it pointless. However, a certain policy rose up that I can't really go into and I exploited a loophole, which meant the Senior role was scrapped and the name changed to Assistant Manager.

Regardless of what the role is called, Alex does a very good job. I make it sound like he only got assistant manager because of a loophole, a technicality but that's not the case. He got the Senior staff role because he was hard-working, trustworthy, dedicated blah blah blah etc etc and he'd have got the Assistant Manager role. Tbh, I'm hoping Alex doesn't resign while I'm still here because I'd hate having to pick another assistant out of the fabulous bunch we have in the team.

PS. Without the hierarchy in the Competitions Department, I often find that there isn't much room for promotion and so the powerhungry are normally the first to leave (Not saying that everyone who has resigned from competitions is powerhungry of course). This is a good thing because it leaves me with the dedicated staff I have today and I'm not going to change that.

If you want to tell us what was confusing, we'd take any feedback on board for the future. :)

i don't think it was anything on your part, it's just because i've only just started properly using the forum and i'm not used to how events/competitions are run on here (set in my ch ways haha)! i do like the variety of events you've got on here though, and the client games sound pretty unique (rather than just the usual falling furni/cossie change rubbish) so good job! :)

Well seeing as they are the same role that changes things. And of course - Alex was perfect for the job I do admit. I remember him telling me last August that he was leaving if he didn't get the competitions job. So you did a good job. :P.

LOL did i? I wasn't even competitions staff in August, infact if I quite remember I think I planned to just be forum oriented during my area of competitions, that all changed december 30th... :P

But yes, I agree with Mike. I think the role is the same and I think I am the one to ask here! :P I don't think there's any need for another one if you wanted that to happen either as Assistant or Senior, the person would be equally as good. I don't think it's a concerning issue as whether it is a Managerial position or not, it's what they do which is important, in reality it's not that big a jump from normal to assistant in this case. It'd just be the Manager training up the new Assistant, like I got trained up when I was senior. :)

Not enough work to go around for a third person in "management" imo.

I do quite like Competitions Dept in the sense it looks really homely, and I think the size of it is what makes it likek that. I've considered joining it many times simply because it's a nice, small group of people who are there because they want to be. I can just imagine the Competitions team to be a group of old ladies, sat in a log cabin, around a fire with tea and biscuits. I daresay it also helps that Alex and Mike are best friends and not just "working" together - surely that has an affect on how they run their department? (aww, it's their baby)

Aww cute. If you have any new original events which you'd like to see, feel free to post them :O
