but i have no idea what is good in this day and age. i want it on contract and obviously want the best package available.

money isnt too much of an issue but i am a student. i would put a price but i don't have much idea about the monthly rates

I would say the desire rather than HD, although the picture and everything will better. The HD is really big and doesnt fit in pockets and looks really strange imo.
