+REP PAYG phone/contract SIM?

Probably a really nooby question, but I'm thinking of purchasing a PAYG phone. If I did buy a PAYG phone, for example an iPhone 4 on T-Mobile, could I put my contract T-Mobile SIM card in it?

Also, if the contract SIM has unlimited internet, would the internet work on the iPhone?

The iPhone doesn't use normal sim cards ... they use a little chip instead... so you have to pay for your number to be transferred (£60 i believe).
Regarding your Internet i would say it would work, but you'd have to ask about that.

No, it has to be the special chip thing for iPhone

any product bar blackberry and iphone you will be fine (unless it was palm pre, but t-mobile wouldn't support palm as it's not one of their products).

with blackberry you need something called a 'blackberry bundle' which would support access to the blackberry server for data usage. For an iPhone you need an 'iphone tariff' and if it was iphone 4 you'd need a micro sim, which is the same as any sim except as the name denotes, it's smaller.

If you wish to use one of these devices all you have to do is call tmobile on 150 from your sim and ask them to change it to the same/corresponding tariff for that device. ie you're on a £30 pm tariff, you'd call up and ask them to change it to "a £30 tariff with a blackberry bolt on" or "a £30 iphone tariff".

As long as the device is unlocked/locked on tmobile/jailbroken (for iphones) you can use it and shouldn't have any trouble.

PS: if you use an iphone 4 you can ask for a micro sim from any tmob shop or online/over the phone, call up and connect it. they normally provide them free. sometimes a charge of £20 may apply depending on who you speak to.

Yes you can cut the normal MiniSIM used in standard mobiles down to a MicroSIM pretty easily. There are guides to do it online.

It should work as there is no reason why it wouldn't, only thing might be that the online settings may be different (they sometimes use different gateways for their PAYG and Monthly customers)

as johno is stating the networks have different APN's for different customers, your network can supply you and set you up with network settings simply through instruction over the phone and through SMS.

Kind of helped, but T-Mobile allow you to select what phone you're using and give you details to set up the phone. Currently, I have a HTC Wildfire and a BlackBerry. The BB has the BB Data plan, alongside 300 mins + 300 texts. The HTC has unlimited texts, unlimited internet and 100 minutes. Plus, if I buy the phone from T-Mobile on PAYG, the internet details would be given with the phone so I'd be able to change SIM, right?

yes. you may need to change APN on the phone you're using once you swap over into a contract sim on the phone you just bought.

any issue with that (ie if you internet doesn't work with the contract sim you're using - use the wildfire one btw, call tmob and they'll give you your contract customer apn).

Most phones will be ok with unlimited internet but im sure the Iphone wouldnt as uses different taffiffs.. and the blackberry does too..

Only iPhone 4's use smaller sims.

and btw, I don't get the difference between the tariffs? iPhone tariff is more expensive for less data, texts + minutes :S

because apple pick their own tariff's and they regulate the industry as to not offer a better service/more for money across the different networks.
