Just go to that site, and type in your phone number or post code, and it'll give you an estimate of the speeds.
I'm currently with BT Infinity in the wolverhampton area, and it's incredible. I get about 35 - 40mbps download, and 4 - 6mbps upload, so pretty damn amazing (my speedtest on that link I just put only said i'm supposed to get 25mbps download, so you can assume it's more than it says!). :)

Yeah, ive already checked that and got 39.1Mb download and 9.1Mb upload. But im not sure because my auntie only gets 0.1mb And shes phoned and tried to sort it etc. She lives fairly close.
Do you know what their download policies are like and how much the 'Unlimited internet' is?

Well with the best package, it's their fair usage, so roughly 100GB, but i'm pretty sure that they don't mind as long as you aren't constantly going over that month after month.
I've got a bandwidth monitor, and I download a lot, and I still don't reach 100GB, so it should be fine for most people. :)

Alright then, Thanks :) I'll look into it.

Yeah, they'll send a warning e-mail at 80GB and throttle you at 100GB on their "Unlimited" package

Ah, alright then. I wouldnt think i'd go over 100gb tbh. Unless Xbox Live and PC gaming (online) Takes up a lot of bandwith. Mind you, virgin should have a fair usage poilcy, and i havnt had any warnings about that.

VM don't have monthly limits.
100GB a month would drive me crazy... i sometimes download that in one night.

Oh, i thought they would have. Im not too sure really. I dont download THAT Much. But that depends on Xbox Live (+DLC) And STEAM etc

Our house, four people, each with multiple computers, streaming HD video each night, my gaming, download movies/TV shows, Spotify and general web usage and we don't go above 70GBish generally.

VM don't have monthly limits.
Well, they have an acceptable use policy and traffic management, so if you're in the top users for over-downloading/uploading, you get temporarily capped.

It depends what package your on. Typically I always download at night so it's not much of a problem for me, but this is how the 20MB package works:
Download more than 7GB from 10am to 3pm = Speed reduction to 5MB
Download more than 3.5GB from 4pm to 9pm = Speed reduction to 5MB

I'm thinking about going with bt infinity but it's not in my area until next year

The only thing im really worried about is the limit. Because knowing my luck, i'll use it all -.-
What are BT like with torrenting music and that?

I believe BT are among the most lenient. They don't care what you download

I remember being on their 'unlimited' package and getting throttled even though over the month I downloaded nothing, I wouldn't reccomend it in the slightest

You were doing something wrong. BT doesn't throttle people for no reason.

Agreed. I've been with them for a long time, with an internet-using family of 5, and we've never had a problem.

They may have changed their packages, you'll still be subject to a fair usage policy but it'll probably be a lot higher if there's already a 100GB plan.

What? It's 40GB for option 1, and Unlimited with fair usage on option 2?

Currently I'm on Option 3 and have only been capped once but nearly reach the 80-100GB mark every month so I hope Infinity comes here soon and have better packages with a higher cap limit :D

You're right, I should of explained more but after 5 days of ringing the call centre they finally decided that we shouldn't of been throttled, hence me being so annoyed with them as an ISP.

we're hoping to switch to infinity very soon, theyve been installing it for the past 2 months in our area and it launched 2 weeks ago here

Oh really? I checked yesterday and they have indeed changed it, but all it said was if you're in the top 1% of heavy internet users, then you get capped for a month, which is great news compared to 100GB. :P
Also, the max download speed i've ever got was about 39/40mbps, and upload was 7/8mbps. :)

internet fib.

That sounds about right as BT will push about 50meg. I am waiting on infinity though I don't get it till March apparently and as I am so far from the exchange I will only get about 30meg broadband but still that is a vast improvement to the variable 1-7meg I am on now.
The only plus side is I get BT broadband for free as I used to work for them for a short time and my dad still does. Also means I get discount from dabs.com as it is owned by BT.
What I really want to know is how VM 100meg is doing?
internet fib.
Not really. I've done 50-60GB in a night in the past and he has no reason to lie.
When you're into high definition content you crunch bandwidth like a *****.

I download direct blu-ray rips which are a minimum of 35GB each.
