Recently announced London Olympic Tower.

Any thoughts? Personally i think it's a bit of a pointless structure as it doesn't even look good.

Kinda looks like Blackpool tower without viagra in my opinion...

Since when was March 31st recent? My opinion hasn't really changed, it looks out of place and as if it belongs at Alton Towers.

Thankfully Lakshmi Mittal is paying for it though so I'm not too rattled by it.

The article mentions it'll have an observation deck, so I guess it'll be filled with press during the games who will look down upon the crowds.

Not sure what to think about. It's interesting, but I cannot imagine it in reality, in London, in the olympic village :/

Seen this a while ago, looks like something that belongs in the 1960's Soviet Union - much like the Skylon that was built during the 'Festival of Britain' that was supposed to say how great Britain was at a time when our Empire was slipping from our grasp and our country was going up the wall.

Build a nice park like the Victorians did, something that will last for many years and can be used by everyone.

I actually agree and thats exactly why I've changed my opinion on this tower. You are always wrong.

Go giant red tower. Woo!

It's ok I guess. I have to agree with Jordy, it does actually look like a roller coaster. I don't think someone like Anish Kapoor should have been asked to do anything like this. There in my opinion would have been several other people who could have done a much better job. Someone like Norman Foster who is responsible for some of the more modern and instantly recognisable buildings in London (i.e. The Gherkin, Wembley Stadium, HSCB Tower (Docklands), Millennium Bridge, London Town Hall).

Adding to what Dan said, the Skylon in London in my opinion is one serious ugly building now. This will end up being the same in years to come. They've already said that after the games they might demolish the whole site as it will be too costly to keep up so why the need for such stuff like this?

It looks like a UFO which became tangled with what I can only describe as the secret love child of a rollercoaster and the eiffel tower. If this was the winning design I wonder what the losing designs looked likes.

I think who ever is approving the visuals for the the Olympics obviously has a serious acid problem because what we are seeing can't be the same as what they are seeing. First the logo and then they approved this, what else?

If I were the ceo of durex I would have a massive condom commissioned for this. Totally worth the massive fine but the marketing aspect would be amazing.

Oh snap, BBC had pictures in march:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8597069.stm

So basically this thread is current affairs because you've just discovered that AOL has just added an image to an article, despite the fact that the image has existed everywhere else since march and it was probably there in the first place. Woop-de-doo!

Who knows what Chippiewill's problem is, its not neccessarily towards your thread he is like that all over the board.

I hope we tear down that monstrosity as soon as 2012 is over.

By your argument I can make a thread about a Roman event that happened 2000 years ago and call it news because some people don't know about it.

No because it's about a tower that is yet to be built, you've obviously haven't seen many news sites if you've never a report about something thats happened a few months back.

Also there's a big difference between a few months and a few thousand years. If i was in the wrong section a mod would have moved it by now, so if you don't like this thread just don't post in it, you are the only one getting all pissed about it.

So I can make a thread about the Sagrada Família because it isn't complete yet?

Also there's a big difference between a few months and a few thousand years
Neither are 'current', I could make threads about: 9/11, 7/7/7, Gordon Brown losing the election, the Ash cloud etc. they're still not 'Current Affairs'

If i was in the wrong section a mod would have moved it by now
I never said it was in the wrong section, I said it's a stupid thread that should be locked because it's as much worth as any thread in this forum being bumped

so if you don't like this thread just don't post in i
If you don't like my posts don't respond to them.

you are the only one getting all pissed about it.
You're the only one defending a stupid thread? I fail to see how either point is relevant.

You're the only one defending a stupid thread? I fail to see how either point is relevant. The difference is 9/11 etc is obvious. All eoin has done is over-looked the date on an article, it was not blindingly obvious nor is it a big mistake so get off his case. You've completely blown the whole thing out of proportion, and frankly I don't know why you care so much, perhaps it's because you've nothing better to do with your life and to satisfy your ego by attempting to "flame" people on forums.

I'm sick to death of your pathetic attitude and clearly I'm not the only one, sort it out.

It's the fact he's continuing to defend it, you're also blowing it out of proportion by responding, well done, and I care so much because he made a thread about something that happened months ago which is as relevant as a bumped thread.

Chippiewill i honestly don't get what your problem is.

Your answers to people here are less than satisfying and childish, i could waste my next half hour responding to each of your sentences (as you did ) but i have better things to do than waste my time arguing with a person like you.
