It probably just means that it's the first year course not the second year one.

the first year
it could also mean it's only for 1 year (most level 3 college courses are 2 years)

Cheers for replies so quickly, it says that its " The 18 unit Extended National Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels. " and that there students go on to HE.. I was just wondering, does the length of the course effect getting into HE atall, its 18 units so i should be able to get into uni with it.
Cheers

Yes, however with BTEC's you get UCAS points, doing an 18 unit course i belive gives me enough ucas points to take this onto uni.

I went to New College and I went to New College for a reason ^^. It sounds snobbish but if you can get into New College then do! I have friends who went to Swindon college, 4 of them, doesn't sound like much but only one of them finished their course, the rest dropped out. But even she wasn't happy with it, it was supposed to end in an apprenticeship and Swindon College failed to find her a placement so that was that, she had to do it herself.
Also Swindon College is supposed to be fairly good for Computing right? I went there for an open day and asked if many students go to uni after the course, the teacher said "Oh yes, we did very well this year, several of our students went to UWE". Now I don't want to sound mean because UWE is far from a bad university but its 56th in the rankings for Computer Science and doesn't have a particularly good reputation for it. If this is a GOOD department and this is a real achievement for them then whats a bad or average department like? Conversely at New College I knew people who got into Cambridge, Oxford, LSE, UCL etc for various things. Rightly or wrongly its a completely different standard.
If you don't mind me asking, what kinda grades are you predicted at GCSE?
