hurro

im wondering is there such thing as a 'high metabolism' (or however you spell it) and if so what is it.

because i eat like a horse really (probably too much un-healthy things a day) and yet I can't seem to put any weight on

friends say it's because of a high metabolism, but if it is, does it like ever go away or can you still put weight on?

thanks
aled

High metabolism means that your body is burning calories at a faster than average rate.

The key to getting over that is more food.

You say that you eat a lot of bad food everyday, which means your body is now used to that much food being consumed, and then with the high metabolism included you won't gain weight.

You need to eat about 200-300 more calories each day for your body to feel a difference. You have to do this for a few months for it to make a difference, but gradually your metabolism will find the point to which it cannot accelerate any more, and you will start to gain weight.

Slowly but surely, you will get there!

Good luck with it.

I think there is such a thing. Wish I had it I have to say but I can see there must be some downsides too.
This is quite informative on both low and high metabolisms.

My freind say this to me all the time lol.

But it might be slightly different with me as i do a lot of fitness exercise.

However i never gain any fat during my lasy sumer months so might be a high metabolism.

On days when I'm bringing my metabolism back up I quite easily go through a couple of large pizzas (each about 1300 cal), several sandwiches (coming in at about 250 cal per), double chicken&chips (no idea how much in that I'll be honest), both of the 2 for a pound bags of chocolate donuts I like from Tesco (over 1000 cal a bag) and then whatever gets cooked for dinner. Considering I'm only 5'8 and weigh just over 8 stone I think it's quite possible that people who say they eat a lot really do eat a lot

uhh i play squash about 3 times a week and have 3 meals a day (packed lunch in school)

i don't really know what to eat exactly to like make up the calories and like extra weight, if anyone has suggestions they'll be appreciated!

I used to think I ate barrels of food but I never gained any weight. But I was shocked to see that my calorie intake rarely got anywhere near to 2000 when my body was actually needing at least 2400 a day. Since starting to lift weights and having a high calorie/protein/carb diet, I have gained almost a stone in weight so far.

@FlyingJesus, if you ate like that everyday you wouldn't be so scrawny.

That's kinda the point, I do that maybe once every 2 weeks or so to kick start my metabolism again rather than to put on weight, was just proving that it's entirely possible. At my heaviest I was eating probably just over half that every day but that was disgusting

that's good isn't it, until you become too skinny.
Just measure your daily calorie intake and make sure it goes over like 2000 then you'll be gaining weight.

I eat a LOT of carbs and protein atm since i go to the gym a lot and lift weights at home. Your metabolism goes up a lot and i've always had it pretty high

2000 calories is too low for the average male. I'm only 15 (and slim) yet my body needs almost 2600 calories a day. I'm not even that active either!

I was having this exact same issue, i thought my metabolism was high and i couldnt put on weight even though i ate alot.
Simply you just think your eating alot. If you want to put on weight add an extra meal into your day and eat alot more protein.
I believe its like every pound you weigh you should eat a gram of protein for weight gain (ex: if you weigh 150, you should eat 150g of protein per day if not more)

I actually started doing the above (extra meal + protein) pretty recently and i've already gained 7 pounds just this week.
