Hey Matt I can help you :D

Basically you need to download easy tether on your adnroid phone (search pdanet) and then follow the instructions, install easy tether on your computer
Remember you need to connect your phone using a usb to your computer
and then when all of that is done basically just right click the easy tether icon and click connect to android etc. :)

It shouldn't cost you if you have unlimited internet.

I hope that helps.

and I'll direct Tom or David here to answer the rest!

PDANet allows you to run a service called Bluetooth Tethering. What this really is doing is creating a Bluetooth DUN service where bluetooth enabled devices can connect to and use the internet over the DUN service.

Out of the box you CANNOT do this on an iPod. However it's certainly possible through an application called iBluever, however I believe you have to be jailbroken to get that particular application.

Yeah i've heard of that app, doing it like this would still need me to have unlimited internet data on the android phone?

Unlimited data always helps, although I know people who have tethered with 500MB dataplans. Not ideal at all because you end up consuming all your month's data fairly quickly, but it's certainly possible if that's what you mean.
