Tom and Nikki have just told me they don't know what eggnog is. Does anyone from across the pond like Eggnog? In North America it's something you can get every year around Christmas. It doesn't really satisfy my thirst but I think it tastes very sweet.
If you're not into eggnog around Christmas, is there some other customary foods you have around this time of year?

I've heard of it but I've never ever tried it. I think I might try it if I can, it sounds interesting.

Haha, I've been offered it a couple of times at Christmas in Florida but always turned it down - it looks disgusting! :P
To be honest I have no idea what it is and the name puts me off and I have no intention of trying it!

Same heard of it in programmes like the simpsons but never tried it.
My uncle across the pond says it's a heart attack in a carton lol?

In Merry old England, and i'm guessing colonial enclaves that still exist/the United Kingdom itself we have Mince Pies, Christmas Pudding and probably a few other things i'm not familar with - although i'm guessing Canada and the United States also have Mince Pies and the like.

I've heard of it through various references but never had / seen it. What actually is it?

Wiki says:
Eggnog, also known as egg nog, is a sweetened dairy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dairy)-based beverage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beverage) made with milk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milk) and/or cream (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cream), sugar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar) and beaten eggs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egg_%28food%29) (which gives it a frothy texture), and flavoured with ground cinnamon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinnamon) and nutmeg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutmeg). Various liquors (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquor), such as brandy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandy), rum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rum), whiskey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiskey), advocaat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advocaat) and/or liqueurs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liqueurs), are often added.
Sounds quite sickly actually.

I'm not sure if the sort I'm accustomed to drinking is made with real eggs, I know a lot of people make their own and homemande eggnog can be pretty good too.
It tastes delicious, I urge everyone who's never tried it to have a glass.

Never tried it, but knew what it was. I just saw it as a legal "alcoholic" beverage served at Christmas to anyone in the family (at least which cartoons always portray with drunken characters :P) Not sure I'd like it though, doesn't sound too pleasant and may be an acquired taste, like how different the chocolate is between the UK and the US.

I don't like it very much! I tried it for the first time last Christmas. It's okay I suppose, but it's also very unhealthy and being the health nut I usually am, I try not to drink too much. I think it's definitely an acquired taste, it got a bit better after I had it a couple times. I actually put it in my coffee once last year :O wasn't bad tbh! if you're scared about it, put it in some coffee!

I've never tried eggnog, but I certainly have heard of it and it sounds very sickly indeed! :P Maybe something I would like to try over christmas though. :)

I thought eggnog was just something The Simpsons made up.

Thankfully not. I tried *real* eggnog once and it was gross.

I always hear about it in cartoons, like Simpsons (I think that's where I first heard it) I have no clue what it is though, sounds vile.
Sounds well too sickly for my taste +o(+o(+o(+o(+o(
Well, I've never tried it, and I may do in the near future, so I guess people should maybe try it? As HotelUser says it's 'Sweet and Delicious' e.t.c, maybe it is? Who knows unless you try it? So, I also urge people to try it ;)! I shall be doingg!
And, to answer your second question, we (in England) normally just have a Turkey/Chicken (Christmas) Dinner which most countries have anyway.
