I dont know that much about it but I'd say the eMachine ET1840 is better, but the graphics will let you down. I could be completely off though :P
Edit: You'll be best off asking this in the tech section of the forum.

For gaming; both would be useless. £400 for a gaming pc is an extremely hard budget. Unless you mean playing habbo.
I think the zoostorm would be the better pc though :)
The Zoostorm is a Quad core whereas the eMachines is only Dual, so you'll be wanting the Zoostorm and a graphics card. You'd be wanting something like the nVidia GT 430 or better but that would be £50-£60 on top of the £399 for the computer itself.

I read somewhere Dual Cores were better than their Quad counter parts for gaming, or is this complete bull?

Generally most games (Including all source games) won't utilise threading therefore the multiple cores are of not benefit, however I believe they can still use the processing power of all the cores.

Those will be useless for gaming because they have no graphics cards, the Zoostorm has an onboard but that won't be enough for playing anything newer than 1998.
Up your budget by about £100 and add a graphics card.
I would just recommend going to a custom pc place, these are general user pc's at prices in which better custom pcs come

So they can charge him through the nose and talk bollocks because he may not know what they're talking about. At least with a branded OEM computer he can go to Currys or PC World.
I purchased mine off arbico.. pretty decent
