English help! [urgent, +repp]

Basically, I have this question to answer:


How does Shakespeare create tension in Act 3 Scene 1 of Romeo and Juliet and how does it contrast to other parts of the play?

But I have been away for most of these lessons because I am pracitising for my Russian GCSE's and because my teacher is a **** he refused to help me, or atleast point me in the right direction.

So if any of you could please help me, I will be very grateful & I will +repp!

Oh btw, Act 3 Scene 1 is the fight scene where Tybalt fights Mercutio, Mercutio dies etc.

MERCUTIO

basically a forwarning/profetic word on what is to happen for the rest of the play

a bit of bathos here (anti-climax) is the joking word he says just before he dies which reflects on his joking character even at deaths door:

MERCUTIO

Ay, ay, a scratch, a scratch; marry, 'tis enough.

And after this Romeo goes and kills Tybalt in rage doesn't he which leads to his exile and eventual double suicide with Juliet, so that could be the plague on both the houses? :)

Many see this as a turning point in the play aswell which marks the line between the Romantic comical first half to the tragedy that is the second half? So the tension here is really important as it is a ket moment in the whole play.

i also think you could argue that there is a bit of dramatic irony because the audience know that Romeo and Juliet are together and plan to marry however they are the very people punishing Romeo which again leads to the death plague blah blah blah because that would lead to tension they may want you to include examples of language devises that he used in this scene.
