personally, for me, a good singer is someone who communicates with lyrics AND has a pleasant voice which she doesn't in my opinion. so it's not proof at all..

It's not down to personal preference, a good singer has a universal definition which is "Someone who can hit the defined notes accurately 99% of the time in the correct key and pitch"

yeah its not proof for you cos you just described what for you personally believe is a good singer. the lyrics thing is whether they are a good songwriter or not, and the pleasant voice is just down to opinion.

if i don't think she can sing then it's not universal is it? not everyone in the world is gonna like someone. different strokes for different folks. i think she can't sing therefore it's not a fact for me. deal with it.
+ no i'm not talking about songwritting i'm talking about telling a story through your singing. she has like no emotion when she does so i don't think she truly connects with music. & everything is opinion about singing, no proof.

I dont really like it like jen

but doesnt matter if someone can sing or not, coz the **** she comes out with isnt, and can never be classed as, singing.

was talking to robbie for that part
& i didn't ask you to tell me what is proof or not that someone can sing. so deal with it & don't try to persuade me otherwise.

shes so basic it's unbelievable. she's only relevant because she uses a 'good' group of producers who churn out songs that stick in your head. not like she'll ever be known for her aMaZiN singing abilities anyway.

all her singles are probably what you're talking about, but evidently you havent listened to all of her songs or listened to her sing live buts cool, fine with me

then why would you post in a thread where im saying she can sing when i am obviously going to disagree with you?

yeah this thread isnt about her records its about that video and how her singing style in this particular instance differs from what she has recorded.

ummm your title is pretty much addressing us, so obviously we're gonna come and criticise it for the crap that it is. If you'd put the title as "Kesha doing some acousting singing" then your point would be valid.

yeah this thread isnt about her records its about that video and how her singing style differs from what she has recorded.
But surely her records are those that should matter, not a tiny video on youtube. If we're talking about what kind of artist she is, that is.

i know thats your opinion which is why i said fine with me? :S and i know what i put as the title thanks, but why would jen tell me to not try and prove her wrong when this is what the aim of the thread clearly is hence the title. im not particularly bothered whether people think ke$ha can sing or not but she clearly sings better in this video than most think she can. and i agree, i wish she would actually sing in her records more, even though i love what shes done already, but i wish she would put her voice to better use.

Well you put words into my mouth and said that i havent listened to her stuff, when i have, and have made an informed opinion.

because its her opinion, she is very strong on her opinion and so obviously you're wasting her time. This video that you've posted purely backs up her opinion because if you compare it to anyone that can sing, you'd be horribley surprised.

and to be honest i thought she could sing better, that was a horrible acoustic.

fine.
in the video she's average, basic, only relevant because of producers and not herself etc. etc.

well no because if you listen to both of her albums there are some songs where she actually sings so i simply assumed that you were one of these people that says she cant sing because youve heard tik tok or something and judged her from a few singles, which a lot of people tend to do. if you havent, fine. but she demonstrates her vocal ability on some album tracks.

and please dont talk to me like i know nothing about music. i never said she was the best singer ever, but she CAN sing. and if im wasting jens time (i dont know why you need to speak for her btw) she could have just not posted in the thread, she didnt need to come back.

i dont really like kesha

that being said "singing" is a very undefined term, for me at least. to me singing isnt "hitting the notes" as someone said earlier but being able to convey a feeling or emotion through vocals which cant be done through mere speech. i think itd be fair to compare kesha's style of "singing" to someone like m.i.a.; not really long-winded or hefty notes, and kinda touching a little more on rapping than anything else. but even if she couldnt sing it doesnt really matter, all that matters is how the song sounds. all those people on american idol or x factor or whatever might be classically good singers but thats probably what makes me find them boring. i like interesting voices, not necessarily "singers"

i think you make a very good point, however techincally singing is just hitting the notes and being able to sing in key. everyone can have their own opinions of it and thats absolutely fine but thats what im saying kesha is doing here, because a lot of people think she isnt capable of that, and this shows she is.

*REMOVED* just because you think she can sing doesn't mean other people aren't entitled to their opinions

yeah she grew up on a lot of country music and she wrote a bit of it cos her mum taught her, as she wrote songs for people like dolly parton and johnny cash. she said she might like to go into country music a bit when shes older which could be ... interesting :P
