View Full Version : [MYSTERY] What killed my chicken?
Right i have work in a mo so won't reply. Basically I found one of my three chickens dead earlier, there were feathers all over the place. But no wounds from the chicken itself, looked like it had a broken neck. Me and dad are pretty much sure it was a fox, but what do you think?
These are the tracks found near the coup:

It was killed in the day anywhere between 9:30-12. I found it in the doorway dead obv, they were all alive this morning when dad let them out. 2 of my other chickens were unharmed.
Your thoughts?

thats what a fox foot print looks like...
So yeah I think it's a fox.
It could've scared the chicken to death or broken it's neck, they dont necess. need to use their teeth!

Judging from that print, it was definitely a fox that got your chicken. It's unusual though because fox's are normally only seen at night.

I've seen foxes during the day and I know someone who has them right behind their house all day

i'd say fox, it's the only animal that would go for a chicken apart from say a cat or dog
i'd be so upset if a fox got one of my chickens :(
I have to say i agree with the posts above... looks like you got a fox around :/
Im sure that is a snake...
But seriously fox or bear!!!!!

Fox's tend to stay away from humans which is why the fox's like you said stays behind a house all day.
We took some pictures of some cat prints and they're completely different so it was deffo some animal. My garden is quite large as well so it takes a good minute to walk to the bottom of it, that's where there pen is. I can only guess that the two chickens that survived were up the top of the garden and were unseen by the fox.. or the fox was too scared to come nearer the house.
I've shut them away now and they won't be aloud out in quite some time, they have a big run anyway so it's not too bad. Unfortunately if that fox is going to come back at that time again the chickens will be out in the run and they'll probably suffer shock and die anyway.
@Laura it was either ****** chicken, or Egg.
shame! :(

Shoot that god damn fox.
Yeah, would have been a fox. Strange about the time it happened tho o.O
Maybe a postmortem?
I would shoot the fox but unfortunately they're quite hard to spot and you never know when they're actually going to be around. It didn't come last night. :)
Fox trap might be the best bet.
