Basically, i have a wireless router, an xbox 360 and a computer.

Both my computer and the xbox 360 have no wireless capabilities, so i have to hook either one up via cables.

My wireless router only has 1 open slot (that works :P) for a cable, so my issue is that i have to disconnect my computer to play on my xbox live, and vice versa.

I dont really fancy getting the wireless thing for my xbox since it costs like £40-£50, any ideas?

Are you sure you don't have a modem, and not a router? Most routers you would plugin to a modem have four internet ports or something and wireless.

I have both a modem and a router. Router goes into modem etc.

Yeah it does have 4, but like i said only 1 that works aha :p. Used to have 2 that works but alas...

You could buy a switch, but then you might aswell get the wireless adapter.

Your stuck really without spending money.

Many ADSL modems in the UK are built in to the router the ISP provide. So to the casual eye it would seem you just have a router.

They do that with some providers in Canada, but even then they have four LAN spots.

A second router, or one with more room for LAN should do.

Sorted. Also works with Windows 7.

That'll allow me to have my computer connected to the internet via wireless, and then connect my xbox via cable?

Depends how much you depend on your PC's internet connection. Those cheap USB wireless dongles are terrible. They drop connection all the time.

Why not a ethernet hub? Have a cable from the modem to that then one to the router, meaning you have 3 spots left on the modem and 1 on the router and you keep ethernet speed and not 802.11g which is awful.

I think keeping to LAN will be more reliable, but then I'm usually subject to listen to my mother, brother, and sister complain constantly about how they hate their wifi because it never seems to work properly for them for very long!

Wireless is the product of the devil.

If it's possible for you to use cables, then do so.

If the Xbox and your PC are in the same room, you should go with the cable route.

they're both a good 30cm away from the router :p.

so something like this?

That dongle is only cheap 'cause it's old now (it's been out for 5+ years), when it first came out it was like £40! I've used the same one for years and never had a problem with it. If you're only 30cm away from the router, it won't be a problem AT ALL. My routers like 10m away. Wireless on PC, Ethernet on 360. Problem solved.

Wireless is **** in comparison to Ethernet, end of.

Buy this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-Prosafe-Ethernet-Unmanaged-Switch/dp/B00009015U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293721709&sr=8-1

Anything by Linksys/Cisco or Netgear and you'll be set. Belkin products are pure crap.
