Queensland often gets floods, it's part of the natural cycle (why their houses are up on stilts. Well, part of the reason). But this year, it's insanely high and big. The flooding takes up the amount of land of France and Germany combined! I hope everyone's okay.

Indeed, it's very shocking how bad it's been this year. Although floods happen all the time, it's not receiving as much attention as it should be, especially as you say, the total area flooded is about the same as France and Germany. I remember hearing somewhere that the water is draining away quite quickly now, so with any chance it'll be gone soon.

Yeah I've not heard that much about it. Is it really high, or just widespread? Are lots of people losing their homes?

It must be awful to be in such a mess, just think - no showers, no hot water, no clothes, no beds; everything you take for granted.

But thats mother nature I guess, and it will always occur.

There might be crocodiles yeah.
I know it's petty but I'd be so creeped out walking around in the streets with shorts on like that, feeling all the debris hitting your legs but you can't see it. ugh.

I'd imagine drinking water is hard to find too.

A video that I have found which is showing the floods from a webcam stream:

I live in Rockhampton and it had recieved a lot of attention internationally. But, in comparison to what's happening now... Rockhampton was hit very softly. What happened in toowoomba yesterday (I think) is absolutely horrible and now everyone is looking towards Ipswish and Brisbane. The 1974 floods in Brisbane were horrible and now we're starting to hear reports that 2011 will be even worse than that.

We're also starting to get warnings about flash flooding in cairns (North of queensland) with huge thunderstorms. This will leave the North, Central and South queenland damaged. :(

Sorry for double post. But the Brisbane flooding is predicted to surpass 1974 floods (google it) levels. :(

This is honestly so sad, I have friends who are right next to the river and have no way out.
The toll is now; 9 people dead (4 children) and 74 missing

Im about 2km's away from the river and on the high side of things so hopefully it doesn't come up here.

Tomorrow I will be going out with friends and helping people in need, seeing they will be very bad tomorrow.

Many people didn't either as it was serious flash flooding. Have you see the video of Toowoomba? That is seriously crazy.

The video on BBC News is the most shocking video I have ever seen... You just see all the water running down the lake faster than normal, then it all comes over, and then the next minute, all the cars on the car park are flying everywhere! so epic.

this is so incredibly sad :( 75% of QLD is a natural disaster zone.
theres also floods in northern New South Wales.
Flash Floods in Vic, there may be some in Sa this weekend & Northern Territory Flooding a bit to.
then we got the Western Australia Fires.

this isnt the greatest time for Australia its incredibly sad, i live in New South Wales so im quite far from this.
my heart goes out to every one of the families and friends, and yours should to

R.I.P to the victims of these floods <3
